Mid Lancs AGM 2019 – Rally Points Proposals

The Mid Lancs AGM takes place on Monday the 20th of May at 7:00pm at St Andrews Church Hall. The AGM is open to each person registered to play in the league. This year there are proposals to switch to the Rally Points scoring system. If this is something you feel strongly about and you want to switch or keep things as they are, then it’s up to you to turn up and vote.

The following options have been proposed:

  1. Rally points to be adopted and introduced in the forthcoming 2019-2020 season, with the match format to remain the same.
  2. Rally points to be adopted and introduced in the forthcoming 2019-2020 season and the match format to be changed as follows.
    • Same mixed teams and set-up as is currently employed (i.e. three pairs either playing two level doubles and one mixed, or one level doubles and two mixed), but play best of three ends to 21, rally point scoring.
    • Each pair plays each other – three pairs, three games each, best of nine total games. 9-0, 8-1, 7-2 = max points (3), 6-3, 5-4 = 2 points, 4-5, 3-6 = 1 point, 2-7, 1-8, 0-9 = no points.
  3. Rally points to be adopted and introduced in the 2020-2021 season.  Further discussions will take place between the Officers of the League and its members over the course of the next 12 months in order to decide upon the manner in which the move to rally points will impact upon the format of matches and the league’s points system, as well as the knock-on effect on the handicapped cup competitions and tournaments.

Mid Lancs Week R – Final Report of the Season

Report From Paul Eastham

In the final week of scheduled fixtures and in my final report of the season, more or less all promotion & relegation spots have now been filled, there are just a couple of loose ends to tie up via means of rearrangements in the next few weeks.

So, this week in division 1, Cross Feathers were crowned Champions when they beat David Lloyd 12-6 to make it 2 successive seasons as winners and my congratulations go to them. Rach Graham won all of her 6 to be the POTM on the night.

Hawks B fell 4-14 at home to Carlton A to be relegated back into division 2 after just one season. Andy Davis & Sian Meakin won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the night.

St. Andrews A beat MGS B 15-3 to become runners up this year and they did have their chance to topple Cross Feathers during this season, but it was not meant to be! They finish 3 points behind the new Champions.

MGS C also return to division 2 with a 2-16 home defeat to Hawks A.

The teams in division 1 also created a record this season; not a single match was cancelled or rearranged..!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Mid Lancs Presentation 2019

Message From Janette Norris

Dear all

Apologies for the late notification of the attached information in regards to the dinner dance for this year, but there have been a few issues with Wellington Park loosing their kitchen facilities a week before our event and having tried over the past few weeks to accommodate us with outside catering I was notified last week that they could not get confirmation for food and therefore advised me that I should start looking for a different venue.

I have therefore been on the phone with various venues and have managed to secure a booking for the same evening at Shaw Hill Golf Club, Preston Road, Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley  PR6 7PP.  The time will be the same from 6.30pm onwards for arrival to sit down at 7pm and it will be in The Penina Suite which is located to the right hand side of the main entrance with parking facilities and overnight accommodation if anyone feels the need.

I have attached the normal booking form which I will need you to fill in – please contact me if you require a vegetarian option or a special dietary need and I will get the options from the chef.  Please note that all monies will need to be paid by the 28th April as they require payment 2 weeks prior to the event with menu options confirmed.  After that date I would need to contact the venue to see if they can accommodate any extra’s (if required).  Unlike previous years I have been informed that they will be unable to accommodate anyone just turning up on the night.

Please either collate your bookings as a club, team or send them to me individually just letting me know which club you are from or if there is only you, who you would wish to sit with.

Many thanks

Mid Lancs Week Q

Report From Paul Eastham

In division 1 MGS A beat their own B team 16-2 and it was Dan Porter & Jen Rigby won all of their 6 games to be the best pair.

Hawks B got beat 2-16 by Cross Feathers to stay on top of the table by 4 points and just need to win a single point on the last fixture week (next week) against David Lloyd to lift the shield for the 2nd year. Hayley Harrison was statistically the best player.

MGS C got beat 0-18 by St. Andrews A as Andy Fowler was statistically the best player on the evening.

David Lloyd maintained 3rd position when they beat Hawks A 11-7; Clarky won all of his 6 games to be the best player.

In 2, St. Andrews B got beat 5-13 by the now runners up of the division, Clayton Crusaders A. In the 4 point maximum win, the POTM on the evening was Neil A-Jones, he won all of his 6 games in the 3rd Men’s slot to assist in gaining promotion.

Clitheroe A beat MGS D 14-4 to remain the only team this season to not to have lost or drawn a match this season.

The Hillbilly’s were back at the fort this week and had another epic battle, this time against Carlton B. The match got underway & Garstang got off to a great start, splitting the Men’s and winning all of the Ladies with Ali Crosbie winning all of her 4 games to give a 6-2 start. Then the opening 2 mixed sets to take Garstang onto an 8-4 commanding lead before Carlton let rip in the remaining 3 sets. Simon Bruford & Jane Parkinson won a pair in the 7th, as did Dave Boon & Deb Balmforth in the 8th to line up an 8 al classic. In that final set, Simon & Jane won both games to a nail-biting 16-17 & 8-15 for Carlton to snatch the win at 8-10 and leaving Garstang feeling deflated for the 2nd week in a row with the same score-line. Simon was the best player on the night, he took 5 games including the crucial one to snatch the 3 points and the win. As for Garstang, they remain in danger, 5 points above the red line and as Evergreens have 2 matches in hand over them, they just may perform the great escape!

Clayton Crusaders B had a tight match against Hawks C and the score were level after the very close level games. In the opening mixed set, Mo Sulleman & Gail Monk won both games to take Hawks into a 4-6 lead. The next 2 sets were split before Mo & Gail conceded their games in the 8th to make a score-line of 8 all & set up a nail-biting finale. Dan White & Jackie Atherton won the opening game 8-15, but Cameron Higgins & Ren Soni won the final game taking it 15-2 to help earn Clayton a draw.

Mid Lancs Week P

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in division 1, Hawks B got beat 1-17 by MGS A who stay in 4th place and it was Sam Ames & Lee Clayton who won the single game to stop the complete walkover. Emily Broadbent was statistically the best player on the evening.

MGS B lost 4-14 to Hawks A as Michelle Skinner was the POTM for winning all of her 6 games on the night.

David Lloyd thrashed 17-1 MGS C to stay in 3rd; Dan Porter & Danya Lewis-Baron won the single game to stop the whitewash.

Cross Feathers went sole leaders at the top of the division with an 18-0 whitewash over Carlton A; Millie Hyde was statistically the best player on the night. With just 2 fixtures left… the only fly in the ointment for Cross Feathers is their final match of the season against past Champions, David Lloyd……Will they spoil their party parade? I will wait with baited breath!

St. Andrews A dropped a vital point last night in their match against Hawks B. In the 12-6 win, Nikki McGrath & Karolyn Hustler won all of their 6 to be the best players on the evening, however their title dreams now seem to be slipping away from them.
