Mid Lancs Week T

In division 2, Carlton B had a match this week against their fellow relegation buddy’s, MGS D and the 2 teams couldn’t be separated in the levels games, as every single set was split. Then in the opening mixed set, Tyler Allen & Joy Moon broke the deadlock & won a pair to take MGS into a 4-6 lead before another incredible 3 split mixed sets to set up a nail-biting finale with the score standing at 7-9. In the final set, Dave Boon & Heather Johnson won both games to draw the match and both teams share the 4 points on offer. So, 7 of the 9 sets were split & therefore I think it was a fair result on the night & Tyler won 4 to be the MVP. St. Andrews B had a tight match against Clayton Crusaders A and the score was all square after the levels. The opening mixed was took by Neil A Jones & Michaela Stanton when they took both games to go into a 6-4 lead and then Olli Gregory & Sarah Gradwell squared the match by taking a pair in the 6th. The 7th & 8th sets were split to set up an 8 all classic in which Paul Baker & Janette Norris won both games to give Andy’s a 10-8 win. Sarah was the saviour on the night; she won 5 to set up the win. Hawks B took on their own C team this week and failed to take all 4 points as the score ran out at 12-6. The MOTM on the night was Rob Courtley; he won all of the 6 games took by the C team to steel the bonus point, which could be absolutely crucial in the promotion race and next week it’s their final match of the season against their biggest rivals, Clitheroe A… Eye watering! MGS C had a crucial promotion crunching match against Clitheroe A at home this week and as expected the 2 teams could not be separated in the levels, as the hosts won all of the 4 Men’s games in which Matt Seddon won all of his 4 and the visitors won the Ladies games as Jess Portas won all of her 4. But in the mixed, MGS put their foot on the pedal & won 9 of the 10 games on offer to win the match 13-5 to move 4 pts clear at the top with 2 matches in hand. Ash was stat the best & Matt was in the ???

In division 3, Hawks D beat Mythop A 18-0 to stay in a solid 4th place; meanwhile, Mythop just want the season to come to an end! A five sided MGS E got beat 1-17 by Champions of the division, Evergreens A; only Trevor Brown & Phil Rhodes winning the very 1st Men’s game that stopped the complete whitewash. Lynette Tidy was statistically the best player.

In division 4, St Andrews C had a tight match against 3rd place Garstang B, who are hunting a promotion place. The opening Men’s set was decided by 2 setting games, both running out at 17-16 and being won by Graham Forrest & Colin Marney; but Garstang fought back and ended up 3-5 in the lead going into the mixed sets. Then, ALL 5 sets of mixed games were all split to give a final score of 8-10 to Garstang to give them the win and go home with 3 hard fought points in the bag. The result keeps them 6 points behind Evergreens B, but have 2 matches in hand, so it’s gonna be a fight to the very end in this division! Penwortham A had a good result over Hawks E and got off to a good start by taking 7 of the 8 levels games on offer in which Laura Heaton won all her Ladies. They then built on the lead by winning the opening mixed set to go into a 9-1 lead and then the rest of the mixed were all split for the score to run out at 13-5. Laura & Johanna Huber won 5 games each in the 4 pt win. Evergreens B had a crunch match this week against Clayton Crusaders C in the race for the title and the hosts were on the ropes at the end of the levels as the score stood at 2-6. Then in the opening mixed, Sam Gorrell & Laura Curtis won a pair to take Clayton into a 2-8 lead. The 6th set was won by Phil Barlow & Karen Kenyon for Evergreens for a 4-8 score and then the next 2 sets were split to take Clayton over the winning line before Steve Dudley & Emily Milner won the final set for Evergreens to give a final score of 8-10. Best on the night was Sam, he won 5 to assist the team to go 1 pt clear at the top with a match in hand.

In division 5, the leaders of the division, Mythop B sealed their title by winning at home to hosts, Penwortham B. They got off to a perfect start to knock the wind out of Penwortham’s sails, as they went 8-0 up. Despite the score going into the mixed, Penwortham fought back, but in the end, it was a bridge too far, but did manage to take home the bonus point for some compensation. Mark Green, Ngan Pilkinton, Jasper Vijayakumar & Julie Bennett all won 5 games each to help lift the shield. Preston College beat Evergreens C, 13-5 to take all 4 points and virtually guarantee that they become runners up of the division. Hazel Bradshaw, Helen Jones and David Dunk won 5 games each to be the best players on the night. St. Andrews D lost at home this week 7-11 to Whittle as Gary Richardson & Carol Heaton won all of their 6 games.
