In division 1 this week, Hawks A hosted MGS A and found themselves 5-3 up after the levels including Elaine Danson picking up all of her 4 Ladies games. In the opening mixed sets, Hawks’ score climbed up to 9-3 as Nick Hodgson & Katie Dixon Turner won both in set 5 followed by another pair in the 6th by Andy Owen & Michelle Skinner. Oli Hives & Jen Rigby pulled a couple back for MGS in the 7th set, but a split 8th took the hosts over the finishing line followed by another pair in the final set by Nick & Katie. Final score, 11-7 as Katie won the POTM for all her 6 games & the win puts them a massive 16 pts clear of the drop zone. St Andrews A beat MGS B 16-2 to go top of the table once again as Cross Feathers have no match this week. Steve Taylor and Nicki McGrath were both statistically the best pair on the night to assist them to go into the top spot. David Lloyd beat Carlton A 12-6 to stay in a solid 4th place on the table, but dropped the bonus point as Andy Davies & Wendy Higgin took the required game in set 8 off Clarky & Joanna Holt. Andy Wiseman conceded 3 games due to feeling unwell.
In division 2, Carlton B got beat 1-16 at home by Hawks B as Lee Clayton & Emily Dainty won all of their 6 games to be the MVP’s. Clitheroe A maintained joint spot when they beat MGS D, 16-2. Tyler Allen & Andy Duggen won the opening 2 Men’s games to stop the total whitewash as Jess Portas was statistically the best player on the night. Hawks C had a cracking 12-6 win over Clayton Crusaders A to assist their relegation fears. Rob Oakes & Ali Peacock took the very last game to steal the vital bonus point, but the POTM on the night was Kelly Anderson, she won all of her 6 games. MGS C made light work of Andrews B they thrashed them 18-0 to keep in joint 1st place; not a single game went into double figures. Caroline Andrew was statistically the best player; Tom was the MVP for the Men’s and Ash moved into the basement.
In division 3, the hillbilly’s were back at the fort again and this weeks victims were leaders of the division, Evergreens A. The hosts got off to a cracking start as Tim Shipway took all of his 4 Men’s to assist in shooting Garstang into a 7-1 lead. A split opening mixed set was followed by Stuart Smerdon & Karen Pye taking a pair in the 6th set to win the match. Garstang piled on more misery on the leaders to eventually run out 14-4 winners to grab all 4 pts in a cracking home win that saw Evergreen’s lose their very 1st match of the season. The result keeps Garstang in a very threatening 3rd place & the POTM was Tim, he won all of his 6 games. MGS E had a fine 11-7 win over the team above them on the tables, Clitheroe B. They got off to a 5-3 start in the levels before building a 7-3 lead when James Dewolf & Sarah Woodhouse won the opening mixed set. Darryl H Smith & Lauren Davis pulled a couple back for Clitheroe in set 6 before 2 split sets in 7 and 8 for a 9-7 score-line. In the final set James & Sarah won both games 17-14 & 15-2 to wrap up the match at 11-7. James & Sarah won all of their 6 to assist in the win and be the best players. Clayton Crusaders B got off to a 5-3 start in the levels against opponents, Hawks D; Dylan Butcher won all of his 4 Men’s. Irv & Gail Monk took a pair in the opening mixed set to square the match before Victor Chow & Katy Dutton won both in set 6 to take Clayton back into a 7-5 lead. A split set was followed by Victor & Katy winning both games again in set 8 to win the match. Final score was 10-8 to Clayton as Victor took home the POTM award for winning all of his 6 games & help the team stay in 2nd place.
In division 4, St. Andrews C hosted Project 12 this week and despite the point’s difference at the foot of the table, the visitors put up a good fight. St. Andrews trounced them in the levels, going 7-1 up which included Emma Ryding winning all of her 4 Ladies. A tight opening mixed set was split followed by Paul Whitehouse & Sarah Coultas winning a pair in set 6 to pull the score back to 8-4. A split 7th set took Andy’s on the verge, but set 8 was won by Jon Jackson & Katt Platt winning a pair to claw the score back to 9-7. In the final set, Graham Forrest & Jane Godsland won both games to 10 & 13 to take Andy’s over the line for the win. In the 11-7 win, Jane won 5 games to be the best player & help the team move 15 pts clear of their opponents. Garstang B had a tight match this week when they hosted joint leaders, Evergreens B and got off to a 5-3 lead in the levels sets. Tony Augustyniak & Emily Milner won the opening mixed set to square the match before Lee Meakin & Emma Gilfoyle took both in set 6 to take Garstang back into 7-5 lead. Set 7 was split before Lee & Emma wrapped the win by winning both games in set 8 and Evergreens took the last pair for a score-line of 10-8. Emma won all her 6 to assist in the cracking win over the leaders. Hawks E got beat 1-17 at home by the leaders of the division, Clayton Crusaders C; only Dave Sherrington & Marian Bamber winning the single game to stop the total whitewash; however the score, I believe does not reflect how close the games were. Clayton Crusaders D v Penwortham A………………. No card at time of report being published.
In division 5, Brindle gave the leaders of the division, Mythop B a good run for their money despite getting off to a bad start in the levels by winning just 2 Men’s games for a 2-6 score as Helena Lemper took all of her 4 Ladies games. In the opening mixed set, Nick Fish & Linda Kozera won a pair for Brindle before 2 split sets for a 6-8 score-line. In the 8th Mark Green & Wan Desmond took both games for Mythop to win the match before Nick & Linda won the final games in the 9th set for a very respectable 8-10 result. Nick won 5 for Brindle and Helena won 5 for Mythop to assist in the win and take the team a massive 14 points clear. Preston College had a tight match this week when they hosted St. Andrews D and they were on the ropes in the Levels as the visitors went 2-6 up when Phil Newsome won all his 4 Men’s games. Then in the mixed, College squared the match when Mick & Hazel Bradshaw won a pair in set 5 and then Dave Dunk & Janet Keys won both in set 6. In the 7th set, Matt Barton & Anne Ashworth won both to take Andy’s back into the lead at 6-8 when they won both games. In set 8, Dave & Janet won a pair to set up an 8 all classic in which Mick & Hazel won both games to win the match 10-8 for College. Hazel & Janet won 5 games each. Penwortham B beat a five sided Whittle, 13-5 to take all 4 points and leave their opponents rooted to the foot of the table.
