Report From Paul Eastham
Hi all, welcome to the 2019/20 season and I would first of all like to inform you that the usual weekly reports may be hit and miss this season… I can only apologise for this, as I know quite a few of you look forward to these every week.
Fixturelive should always be up to date, so keep your eyes peeled for any changes and hopefully, our website should be live soon with all the info we can cram onto it.
In Division 1, MGS A had the 1st of 2 matches in a week… this was due to me trying to add fairness in fixtures to balance out each teams home and away fixture over the 1 ½ season and I thank MGS for doing this for me. So, the first fixture was against David Lloyd and what a corker of match it turned out to be. 4 all going into the mixed and 5 split sets in total to draw the 1st match of the season. Clarky won 5 to be the best player on the night. In the 2nd match, MGS played their own B team and took all 4 points in a 4-14 win; Becky Ashton & Jen Rigby won all their 6. Last year’s Champs, Cross Feather beat Carlton A 2-16 to put their stamp on this year’s title race.
In division 2, last year’s Champs, Clitheroe A visited St. Andy’s B & beat them 4-14 to make another good start to the season. Hawks B lost 7-11 at home to MGS C who had a strong team out in the form of Ash Gibson (POTM) & Tom Lowe. MGS D too all 4 points in a 13-5 victory over Hawks C; Joy Moon won 5 games to be best. Clayton A beat Carlton B 11-7 as Michaela Stanton won all her 6 to be the POTM on the night.
In division 3, Clitheroe B fell 5-13 at home to Evergreens A, who took max points with Sharon Mulholland taking all of her 6 games. Garstang A locked down the fort this week and beat Mythop A 15-3 to top the table on game difference. Dan Dixon & Karen Pye won all of their 6 ‘played’ games to be the best pair on the night. Hawks D beat MGS E 11-7 as Ian Hayhurst won all of his 6 to be the POTM on the night.
In division 4, Project 12 opened their account with a 7-11 home loss to Hawks E; Kyle Sumner was the best player taking 5. Penwortham A beat Garstang B 13-5 in their opening match of the season & Laura Heaton won all her 6 to be the POTM. Evergreens B won the last 5 games in a row to win their match 11-7 against St Andy’s C at home. Tony Augustyniak took his 6. Crusaders C beat their own D team 18-0, to be the early leaders of the division; Jade Thornhill was statistically the best player.
In division 5, St. Andrews D lost 6-12 at home to Evergreens C as Seb Curry & Anita Murry won a crucial game in the final set to claim the bonus point. Margaret Whitham & Karen Kenyon won all of their 6 games to help their team win the match. A 5 sided Whittle had a tight match against Brindle in their opening match, and being 6 games down instantly put the pressure on them. In the final set of the match, the score was poised at 7-9 as Whittle need both games to draw the match and Simon Hardacre & Carol Heaton got the side off to a perfect start with a 15-12 win to take the score to 8-9. But in the last game of the match, Nick Fish & Catherine Dobson too the game 7-15 to win the match for Brindle. Simon Wynn won 5 in the 8-10 loss.
