In division 1 MGS A beat their own B team 16-2 and it was Dan Porter & Jen Rigby won all of their 6 games to be the best pair.

Hawks B got beat 2-16 by Cross Feathers to stay on top of the table by 4 points and just need to win a single point on the last fixture week (next week) against David Lloyd to lift the shield for the 2nd year. Hayley Harrison was statistically the best player.

MGS C got beat 0-18 by St. Andrews A as Andy Fowler was statistically the best player on the evening.

David Lloyd maintained 3rd position when they beat Hawks A 11-7; Clarky won all of his 6 games to be the best player.

In 2, St. Andrews B got beat 5-13 by the now runners up of the division, Clayton Crusaders A. In the 4 point maximum win, the POTM on the evening was Neil A-Jones, he won all of his 6 games in the 3rd Men’s slot to assist in gaining promotion.

Clitheroe A beat MGS D 14-4 to remain the only team this season to not to have lost or drawn a match this season.

The Hillbilly’s were back at the fort this week and had another epic battle, this time against Carlton B. The match got underway & Garstang got off to a great start, splitting the Men’s and winning all of the Ladies with Ali Crosbie winning all of her 4 games to give a 6-2 start. Then the opening 2 mixed sets to take Garstang onto an 8-4 commanding lead before Carlton let rip in the remaining 3 sets. Simon Bruford & Jane Parkinson won a pair in the 7th, as did Dave Boon & Deb Balmforth in the 8th to line up an 8 al classic. In that final set, Simon & Jane won both games to a nail-biting 16-17 & 8-15 for Carlton to snatch the win at 8-10 and leaving Garstang feeling deflated for the 2nd week in a row with the same score-line. Simon was the best player on the night, he took 5 games including the crucial one to snatch the 3 points and the win. As for Garstang, they remain in danger, 5 points above the red line and as Evergreens have 2 matches in hand over them, they just may perform the great escape!

Clayton Crusaders B had a tight match against Hawks C and the score were level after the very close level games. In the opening mixed set, Mo Sulleman & Gail Monk won both games to take Hawks into a 4-6 lead. The next 2 sets were split before Mo & Gail conceded their games in the 8th to make a score-line of 8 all & set up a nail-biting finale. Dan White & Jackie Atherton won the opening game 8-15, but Cameron Higgins & Ren Soni won the final game taking it 15-2 to help earn Clayton a draw.

In division 3, Garstang B had a tight match against Mythop A this week and the score was all square at the end of the levels as both teams won a Men’s & a Ladies set each. Lee Meakin & Jen Tsang took 1st blood in the opening mixed by taking both games for 6-4. A tight split 6th was followed by Daniel Cooper & Pauline Weafer winning both games to even the scores again at 7 all. Then in the 8th, Chris Porter & Linda Settle won a pair to take Mythop 7-9 ahead and leave another nail-biter. Then in that final set, Lee & Jen won both games to 12 over Daniel & Pauline to draw the match and share the points and the icing on the cake for Garstang was that Lee and Jen were the best players on the night as they won all their 6 including that nervy last set.

MGS E moved into joint 3rd with Mythop A with a very convincing 12-6 win over St. Andrews C.

Clayton D had a tight battle with fellow relegation strugglers, Hawks E and the hosts were on the ropes after the levels being     2-6 down. In the opening mixed set, Carl Charlesworth Chris Cochrane won both games 10 & setting 15 to take the score to 4-6. This was then followed by sets 6, 7 & 8 all being split for a 7-9 score-line going into the final set. Carl & Chris stepped up to win both games again to 8 & 5 to help Clayton pull off a draw on the evening & Carl was also the best player for winning 5 games.

Evergreens B had a 4 point max win over Crusaders C and in the 13-5 win, Phi Barlow & Lee Wigham took all of their 6 games.

In 4, Evergreen C needed a few superhero’s ? to help in their visit to Mythop B with the host’s current form! Mythop’s 3rd man Daniel Cooper was a powerhouse early in the night conceding only 12 points in the 4 men’s games. Mythop ladies has a tougher fight but won the 1st ladies before the visitors stopped the rout. Karen Kenyon of Evergreens sporting her own power packs in her striking leg supports used the force to win the 2nd game in set 4 to make it 7/1 after the levels. Evergreen battled hard in the 1 mixed but both games were won by Mythop. Captain Marvel (Mark Green) & our very own Electra (Ngan Pilkington) stormed set 6, 15/1 & 15/5 to gain the 11th winning game. Set 7 & 8 were won convincingly by Mythop before Evergreens 2nd mixed pair of Karen Kenyon & James Vinden zoomed back to win set 9 to make the final score 15/3 to Mythop. Top Iron men winning all 6 were Daniel Cooper & Mark Green. Thanks to Pauline once again for taking the time to give me a courtside report.

St. Andrews D was on the brink of division 4 history this season when they nearly beat this year’s Champions, Penwortham A! Andy’s got off to a cracking start, going 5-3 ahead in the levels with Jane Godsland winning all of her 4 Ladies against a normally powerful trio of Penwortham Ladies. A split opening mixed set was followed by Alan Benningfield & Laura Heaton winning both in set 6 to even the score at 6 all. Then in the 7th, Phil Newsome & Jane won a pair to take Andrews back into the lead at 8-6 and then the 8th set was spit for a score-line of 9-7 to take them onto the edge of a famous victory. However, in the final set, Alan Turner & Cathryn Jackson won both nail-biting games 11-15 & 12-15 to help save Penwortham’s blushes and share the points. Final score, 9 all and the POTM on the evening was Jane, she won all her 6 games at crucial stages in the match.

Penwortham B lost 5-13 at home this week to Preston College as Dave Dunk & Janet Keys won 5 games to be the best pair.

Whittle managed to rob the critical bonus point in the final set against promotion chasers, Project 12. The visitors got off to a great start as Sarah Coultas won all her 4 Ladies to help the visitors go 2-6 up after the levels. Project 12 continued to pile the pressure on in the mixed, winning the match in the 7th set. But going into the final set the score stood at 4-12, Gary Richardson & Karen Butler won both games for Whittle and stop the visitors going home with all 4 points. Final score, 6-12 as Sarah won 5 to be the best player on the night and they need at least 2 points next week at Evergreens to seal a promotion spot next season over Mythop B who need to have a max point win at home over Preston College and then hope Evergreens pull off a miracle!
