Division 1 kicked off this week when Carlton A hosted MGS A, but unfortunately didn’t muster any points from the match as the hosts went home with all 4 in 4-14 victory. Jen Rigby & Rebecca Ashton won all of their 6 to help the team win maximum points.
Hawks B got beat 3-15 at home by the leaders of the division, St. Andrews A; Liz Holt was the POTM on the night for taking all 6.
MGS B got beat 5-13 at home by David Lloyd who stay in a very stable 3rd place on the table. Alan Clarkson & Jenny Salisbury won 6 games each to help the team get max points on the evening.
Cross Feathers didn’t mess around with visitors, MGS C… they thrashed them 18-0 to show them why they are the current Champions of the league. Hayley Harrison was statistically the best player on the night & they move joint top of the table.
In division 2, St. Andrews B got thrashed 1-17 at home by the leaders, Clitheroe A; only Amit Patel & Karolyn Hustler winning the 1 game in the opening mixed set stopped the complete whitewash. Clitheroe have taken max pts in all of their 5 matches to remain the only team in the league this season not to have dropped a single point. Jess Portas was stat the best player.
The hillbilly’s were at the fort this week as they hosted a five sided Evergreens A and they made the most of the situation by winning the match 13-5. Two split Men’s sets, Evergreen’s taking a pair in the only Ladies set played & in the mixed Garstang powered their way through the remaining sets to lift themselves off the bottom of the table at the expense of their opponents.
MGS D took on Clayton Crusaders B in a match that saw them take all 4 points, but only just! After being 6-2 up after the levels, the mixed started with 3 sets being split before winning the last 4 games in a row including a final game score of 17-14 to Matt Seddon & Cheryl Parry who won all of their 6 games to help win the maximum 4 points & put the team in a healthy 4th place.
Clayton A took advantage of St Andy’s loss and move up into joint 2nd place with them when they beat Hawks C 12-6. In the match, there were 2 best players who won all of their 6 games and they were Azam Sharif & Neil Addison-Jones.
In 3, Mythop A hosted Clayton D and I got another ‘Spooktacular’ off Pauline again this week… “The Mythop baker flew back on her broomstick from Mont Orqueil Castle this Halloween week to try & cast a spell on Clayton Crusaders D. Fiendish Fancies & Skull Bites were needed to boost the “Coffin” Break after Mythop quickly ghosted 7/1 up in the level doubles. Jade Thornhill & Chris Cochrane of CC winning the first ladies game after a Zombie start by Mythop. CC served up their own trick or treat in game 7 to split the mixed with their ghoulish brew! Young Ben Taylor for CC playing in his debut season showed plenty of spirit but was held spellbound by the spooky bats of Mythop’s Jason Lydon & Chris Porter who were the best phantoms on the night” winning all of their 6 games. Final score 16/2 to Mythop.
Bugs & Hisses! Pauline.
Clitheroe B took all 4 points as MGS E couldn’t raise a team and had to concede the match. (£10 fine & a point deduction)
Hawks D kept in joint pole position with a 13-5 home win over St. Andrews C. After a shaky start, losing the opening Men’s set, the hosts won the rest of the games to be 6-2 up going into the mixed. An opening split mixed set, Hawks won the next 4 games to go 11-3 ahead and win the game before Fergus & Julie Munro won a pair to give Andy’s a glimmer of hope of a bonus point. But in the final set, Ian Hayhurst & Maxine Watson wrapped up the match and the maximum points with a 5 & 4 win. Jane Tighe was the POTM on the night as she won all of her 6 games in the No 3 Ladies spot.
Crusaders C won their 2nd match of the season when they beat Hawks E 11-7 to clay themselves away from the dreaded drop zone. Scott Wilkinson (who won 4 games in setting) & Katy Dutton both won 5 games each to assist in the 3 point win.
Evergreens B won their match this week 11-7 over opponents, Garstang B. The handy 3 points leapfrogs them over their rivals into 4th place on the tables as next week Evergreens host the joint leaders, Clitheroe & Garstang play joint leaders Hawks D.
In division 4, Brindle got beat 3-15 at home by visitors Mythop B as Mark Green & Julie Bennett won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the evening and help the team move into 3rd place with the 4 point max win.
St. Andrews D had a tight match with Whittle this week as they found themselves all square with their opponents after the level doubles. A split opening mixed set to keep the scores even was followed by Simon Wynn & Jackie Harnby winning a pair in the 6th to take Whittle 5-7 ahead. Phil Newsome & Emma Ryding bolted into action to win both in set 7 to even the score again, but in the 8th, Gary Richardson & Karen Butler won both to take Whittle 7-9 ahead again & on the verge of victory. In the final nail-biting set, Seb Curry & Jane Godsland won both games to 14 & 7 to earn a draw for St. Andrews as Jane won 5 games to be the best home player & Gary won 5 of his games to be the best player on the night for Whittle & help them move into joint 2nd.
Project 12 hosted Penwortham B and thrashed them 16-2 to surge up the table with the 4 point win, only Dave Jackson & Lois Moleny stopping the total whitewash with winning the 2 games for Penwortham. J Wright & S Coultas won all of their 6 games.
On Halloween night, some spooky going’s on took place at All Hallows when a ghastly Penwortham A took on a ghoulish Preston College in a ‘Batington’ match! The Ladies from both teams decided to dress up in costumes for mischievous night…. but the Gents decided to be themselves… which was scarier???? After lots of ‘batting’ around, the hosts run out 17-1 winners with Mick & Hazel Bradshaw winning the one game to stop the total whitewash. Penwortham remain at the top of the table, 4 points clear with a match in hand as Laura Heaton was statistically the best player on the spooktacular evening.
