Report From Paul Eastham
This week in Division 1, Carlton A took a giant leap towards safety when they beat Clitheroe A 11-7. Phil Price was responsible for most of the damage; he won all his 6 games in 3rd Men’s slot to help bag the pts & earn the MOTM award.
MGS B got beat 3-15 by David Lloyd at home who keep in 3rd place on the tables with the 4 max points; Clarky was stat best.
St. Andrews A remain in 4th place with a 4 point max win over Hawks A. Ash Gibson & Karolyn Hustler were the best players on the night in the No 2 slot. They won all of their 6 games in the 15-3 win.
Cross Feathers extended their lead at the top of the division by 4 points when they thrashed Clayton Crusaders A 18-0; only 4 of those games going into double figures. Statistically, Hayley Harrison was the best player on the evening
The only match to survive in division 2 this week was MGS D verses their own C team. To be fair, the D team who lie in a troublesome spot at the bottom end of the table put up a great fight against the C team who are at the opposite end of the tables in the runners up spot. At 2-6 down after the levels, the D team fought back in the mixed, Martin Hobin & Alison P Truman winning the opening mixed set, but the C team sealed the win by winning the next 4 games. However, it was the D team who spoilt the C team’s victory parade by winning 3 of the 4 remaining games to take a vital bonus point that just might make a difference at the end of the season. Matty Timms was the MOTM on the night for winning all his 6 games.
In Division 3, Clitheroe B felt the wrath of the runaway leaders, Carlton B when they got beat at home 2-16 to stay out in front by 11 points & are not far away from guaranteed promotion. Paul Smith & Jane Parkinson won all of their 6 games.
The hillbilly’s hosted MGS F at the fort this week and beat them 14-4 to keep in 2nd place on the table with the 4 max points. Stuart Smerdon was the MOTM on the night for taking all his 6 games as MGS’ division 3 future hangs in the balance.
Hawks D beat their own E team to leave them stranded at the foot still on zero points; Dan White was stat the best player.
Evergreens B managed to scrabble the bonus point when they lost 6-12 at home to Clayton Crusaders C. The result keeps Evergreens below the red line on game difference only with MGS F as Katy Dutton picked up the LOTM for winning all her 6.
In 4, Andy’s C beat bottom team Whittle A 15-3 to move into joint 2nd place on the tables; Richard Andrew was stat the best.
Project 12 remain in trouble below the red line this week when they fell 7-11 to Garstang B who remain in 2nd place on the tables with the 3 points; Jen Tsang was the LOTM on the evening for winning all her 6 & help the team fight for a prom spot.
Whittle B….. I decided I couldn’t be bothered waiting any longer for this card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 5, a five sided Preston College B drew 9 all with their own five sided A team for them to keep in 2nd place on the table.
Penwortham B’s fixture with Evergreens C was called off at first due to a major water leak at the venue, however the quick thinking teams got together and decided to reverse the fixture to get the match place…. my hat goes off to both teams here for unclogging our busy fixture schedule by their actions to get the fixture played & what a trilling match it turned out to be. With both teams virtually being at the opposite ends of the tables, after the levels the teams could not be split as the score was tied at 4 all. In the 1st mixed Steven Dudley & Karen Kenyon won both games to take Evergreens ahead before Dave Jackson & Luisa Malaney stuck back in the 6th to square the match again. James Vinden & Margaret Whitham then took Evergreens ahead again by winning a pair in the 7th to go 6-8 up. The last 2 sets were split including a nail-biting final game being won by James & Margaret 14-17 to take the match 8-10. Luisa won 5 for Penwortham & Steven won 5 for Evergreens to be the best players on the night. The result keeps still keeps Penwortham in charge at the top of the table by a single point, but looking over their shoulders as the chasing pack are just a whisper behind with some cracking fixtures ahead!
