Mid Lancs Weeks G

Report From Paul Eastham

In Division 1 this week, MGS A went to the top of the table with a 14-4 win over bottom team, Clayton Crusaders A.

Hawks A took all 4 points in a 13-5 victory over MGS B to take them to a snug mid table position.

David Lloyd didn’t have any drama this week and it was back to usual business as they beat Clitheroe A 16-2. Clarky was statistically the best player on the night… probably because everyone else is out injured!! J

Cross Feathers took all 4 points in a fine 17-1 win over opponents Carlton A to take them into joint 2nd place on the tables with St. Andrews. Ste Andrews was statistically the best player on the night in the No 2 slot.

For me, being absolutely neutral… as you all know!! The top of the table has never looked so exciting! The top 4 teams, all past winners of some kind are being separated by just 5 pts with Andy’s & David Lloyd having a game in hand over the others and ‘they’ have still got to play each other! Something or someone is gonna crack…. Or is it.. Will it be like this to the end? J

In division 2, Hawks C had a fine 12-6 win over MGS D to take them into 4th place on the tables & the star on the evening was “Super Gail” she won all of her 6 games to be the LOTM and help the team take 3 points.

Second placed team, MGS C took on St. Andrews B at home this week and what a tight match it turned out to be. The level games were close and the score was even at 4 all going into the mixed were Matt Green & Janette Norris won a pair for Andy’s to do 4-6 up. A split set in the 6th was followed by Matt Timms & Joy Moon winning both games in set 7 to square the match again. The 8th was split to leave a nail-biting 8 all classic were Amit Patel & Zoe Watts from Andrews held their nerve & won both games 13 & 9 to win the match 8-10. The result keeps MGS in 2nd place on the tables & Andy’s move up into 3rd place as both Janette Norris & Matt Timms won 5 games each to be the best players on the night for their respective teams.

Clayton Crusaders B managed to snatch the bonus point in setting when Sam Moss & Ali Peacock won the final game of the match 17-16 against Chris Hoyle & Debbie Taylor from Hawks B. The leaders of the division were breezing at 2-6 up after the levels and continued to build in the mixed, but failed in that final game to go home with all the 4 points on offer. The LOTM on the evening was Jenny Brookfield, as she won all of her 6 games in the 6-12 victory for Hawks to open up a 7 point lead.

In Division 3, Clitheroe B found themselves 5-3 up after the levels in which 3 of the 4 men’s games went to setting against Crusaders C. Victor Chow & Jade Thornhill won both games in set 5 to square the match & then Clitheroe went 2 ahead again at 7-5 when Pete Wright & Gill Fourie won a pair in set 6. A split set in the 7th was followed by Pete & Gill winning both in the 8th set to go through the winning line & then the 9th was split to make the final match score 11-7. Gill was LOTM for taking 6.

Hawks E still failed to move off the -1 position on the tables when they got beat 3-15 at home by Garstang A. The hillbilly’s took all the 4 points back to the fort as Dan Nixon, Elaine Higginson & Steve Beniston (on his birthday) won all their 6 games.

MGS F got beat convincingly by the leaders of the division, Carlton B who open up a 10 point gap with the 2-16 victory.

Evergreens B were beaten 2-16 at home by Hawks D as Kelly Anderson was statistically the best player on the night.

In 4, Mythop took 3 points in a 12-6 win over Project 12 to put themselves in 4th place on the tables. The star on the evening was Linda Settle, she won all of her 6 games in the No 1 slot & also was presented with the LOTM award.

Second placed St. Andrews C had a cracking home win this week when they hosted the leaders of the division, Penwortham A The hosts got off to a flying start, winning 7 of the 8 levels games and then building immediately in the opening mixed by taking 2 more games. Penwortham’s Alan Benningfield & Rachael Moon hit back with a pair in the 6th set before sets 7 & 8 were split. Richard Andrew & Zoe Watts won the final pair of games to take the match 13-5 and give Andy’s the maximum 4 pts. Richard & Zoe won all their 6 on the night to be the best pair & help the team go top of the table over their opponents.

Garstang B won 12-6 at the fort this week when they hosted Whittle A. The 3 points assists the team to clear the drop zone by 5 clear points as Lee Meakin & Ceri Smith-Jaynes won all their 6 in the No 1 slot to be the best pair on the evening.

In 5, Preston College A beat leaders of the division, Clayton Crusaders E, 15-3 to climb into 2nd place themselves this week. The usual suspect, Hazel Bradshaw won all her 6 as did David Dunk & Janet Keyes; as for Clayton, its gonna be a dust me down and see what happens at St Andrews D next week.

St. Andrews D fought hard against Brindle in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon at the foot of the division. At 4 all at the end of the levels, it was still all to play for as Brindle drew first blood in the opening mixed by winning a pair when Les Halton & Catherine Dobson won them 13 & 10 to go 4-6 up. Matt Barton & Emma Ryding won both in set 6 to square the match again before Nick Fish & Linda Kozera won a pair in the 7th to take Brindle 2 games up again at 5-7. Again Andy’s fought back in the 8th as Matt & Emma won both games to 10 & 4 to make the scores even again and set up an 8 all classic. Nick & Linda battled against Philip Newsome & Emma Hindley in that final set were the opening game was won by Nick & Linda in setting 14-17! They went on to win the other games 9-15 to take the match 8-10 for Brindle. What a fab match to narrate on and every credit to Andy’s for not giving up against a very experienced Brindle team. Despite being on the losing team, my MOTM was Matt Barton, he won all of his 6 games on the evening & won some critical games that set up a tight match at the end.

Next week for most of the league is the ‘turnaround’…. A third of the season gone already!
