Mid Lancs Week Q

Report From Paul Eastham

In the penultimate week of the current season, Division 1’s, Carlton A took all 4 points off MGS B to lift themselves 5 points clear of their opponents. In the 14-4 max point win it was Phil Price & Louise Jackson who won all of their 6 to be the best.
MGS A sealed their 4th place on the tables with a 14-4 max point win at home over Hawks A; Jared Mathew & Becky Ashton won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the evening in the No1 slot. David Lloyd next week so I expect a win guys! ?
Hawks B v David Lloyd……. Hadn’t a clue, until 3 days after the match date, so a £5 fine on the way to them as per rule 29e.
MGS C were beaten 0-18 at home by Cross Feathers who move into 3rd place on the tables looking for that runners up shield again; Hayley Harrison was statistically the best player on the night.

In division 2, Clitheroe A who are on the back of a losing stretch faced Carlton B this week who were in a relegation spot at the beginning of this match that turned out to be a nail-biter. With Clitheroe winning all of the Ladies and Carlton winning the Men’s, it was game on in the mixed. Matt Cole & Jess Portas struck first blood in the mixed by winning both games to 12 & 14 before a split set in the 6th. Paul Smith & Jane Parkinson levelled the match once again at 7 all before Dave Boon & Heather Johnson won a pair in the 8th set to put the visitors in front at 7-9. Matt & Jess then squared up against Paul & Jane in the final set were the score ran out at 15-8 & 5-15 to earn the visitors a much needed 8-10 win to crawl out of the drop zone. The 3 pts puts them 2 clear of Garstang who now fall below the red line & guess who play each other next week?……. Carlton v Garstang!! In this ‘8’ pointer, it is bound to decide who gets the axe, but Evergreens & Hawks are in the mix now!
Hawks D felt the full wrath of Clayton Crusaders A who won the division shield this week with a 2-16 score line over the relegated side. All I can say to the youthful team is good luck in division 1 next season, as they attempt to make their mark against our top elite teams once again. Sam Moss, Neil A Jones & Sam Ames all won there 6 to help seal the promotion win.

In division 3, MGS E stamped their authority on at least the runners up spot with a convincing 15-3 win over Hawks E. Only Richard Everett won all of his 6 games to be the outstanding player on the night and take home the MOTM award.
St. Andrews C managed to scrape the bonus point in the very last game this week in a 6-12 defeat at home to Evergreens B. Unfortunately it now is not enough to save the team and they will tumble into division 4 next season.
Penwortham A got beat 1-17 at home to Clitheroe B, only Laura Heaton & Alan Benningfield won the single game to stop the total whitewash as Elaine Norris was statistically the best player on the evening in the No 3 slot.
Crusaders B thrashed Springfields A to take a huge step forward into lifting the division’s championship shield; only Jane Green & Alison P Truman stopped the complete whitewash by winning the single game in the 17-1 defeat.

In 4, Springfields B managed to scramble the bonus point in the final set when they hosted Whittle B. Ant Houghton & Simon Wynn both won 5 games each in the 6-12 win for the visitors which will now guarantee they will finish above their own A team on the tables at the end of the season & even are in with a chance of promotion spot as well…..!!!!
Flight stayed in a solid 4th place on the table with a 16-2 home win over Project 12. Chris Tomlinson, Yvonne Kay & Louise Hustler all won all of their 6 games to make sure all of the 4 points went in the bag for their team.
MGS F v Whittle A. No card sent in, so a £10 fine winging its way to them as per rule 25.
Clayton Crusaders E made sure of max points this week when they beat Penwortham B 13-5. The 4 points puts them 6 ahead of their nearest rivals Whittle B, but they have 2 matches in hand over them. Richard Langford was the MOTM on the evening for winning all of his 6 games.

In division 5, Crusaders F were beaten 0-18 at home by Garstang B who now lift the divisions shield, being 6 points clear with only their closest rivals to play in the final week, Mythop. Fran Hellier was statistically the best player on the evening.
Preston College B had an epic battle on their hands when they hosted St. Andrews D. At 4 all after the levels there was a split opening mixed set before Andy’s won a pair in the 6th to go 5-7 up. College immediately stuck back with a pair to even the match score again at 7 all before Matt Barton & Jane Godsland won a pair to put Andrews in front again at 7-9 with the final set to go on. Dave Dunk & Jan Harrison won the final games of the match 4 & 6 to earn a draw for the hosts. Neil Duke won 5 for College, while Anita Murray won 5 for St Andrews, College B will now finish above their own A team on the tables!
Whittle C battled hard against Brindle & found themselves 3-5 down after the levels & the opening mixed set was split before the hosts levelled the match score in the 6th set. Whittle then conceded both games in set 7 and then Andrew & Maxine Garland won both in the 8th to square the score again. Nick Fish & Linda Kozera won both games in the final set to win the match 8-10 for Brindle. Maxine won 5 to be the best player on the night; but potentially a costly conceded 7th set.
