Report From Paul Eastham:
In division 1 this week, Andy Owen & Michelle Skinner from Hawks B won the crucial game in the final set to help win their match 10-8 when they played Carlton A. The result moves those 6 points clear of the red line, but only a single match left to play …. And that is against DLB who are their relegation rivals! Ric Wallbank won 5 games to be the best player. MGS B where thrashed 1-17 by David Lloyd A to leave them dangling just 2 points above the drop zone…. Gulp! Hawks A won 17-1 at St. Andrews B to stay in a solid 2nd place and give themselves a chance to earn the runners up spot. Their remaining match, next week, is at home to the only team that can catch them….. St. Andrews A!!!!! If Hawks win the match, they have a good chance of taking the runners up spot for over 12 years, but I’m sure Andy’s will have a big shout in that happening and I for one, just can’t wait for that match to take place! Nick Hodgson was statistically best on the night. In 2, Carlton B beat St. Andrews C to keep in pole position by one point. In the 13-5 win, Ryan Ashcroft won all of his 6 games to be MOTM on the night. A top of the table clash takes place next week when Carlton travel to MGS C. WOW! The hillbilly’s fell at home by 4 games to 14 when Hawks C came to the fort to do battle. It keeps the visitors a point behind the leaders with a game in hand as Graham Robinson won all 6 to be MOTM; For Garstang, the relegation battle continues! Hawks D were defeated 5-13 by MGS C; Toby Watson & Kelly Anderson won all 6 to assist their team to remain in joint 2nd place. MGS C has the clash with Carlton next week & Hawks scrap it out at the foot with Springfield B. MGS D were beaten 2-16 at home by Springfields A; but it looks like springs have left it too late for promotion… Perfection!
In division 3, Clitheroe sealed the silverware this week with a narrow home win over St. Andrews D. In a closely contended match, Damion Evans & Alison Leaver won the final game in set 9, 15-12 to take the match for Clitheroe 10-8. A five sided Flight were beaten at home, 4-14 by Hawks E as Sheila Burgess won 4 legal games to be the best player. Penwortham A lost 7-11 at home to a five sided Evergreens A; Andrew Morris was the MOTM for taking all his 6 games. Crusaders A took all 4 points off Battledore in a 16-2 win to move them a massive step closer to their division 2 goal. However for Battledore, the fight for survival continues next week in their final match as they host their relegation rivals, Penwortham A. With Flight at home to St. Andrews in their final match, it’s gonna be a nail-biter of a week for the 3 teams! Spring C was defeated 8-10 at home by MGS E; Rob Metcalf did most of the damage on the evening by taking 5 games for the visitors. The bonus point sealed Springfields division 3 statuses next year!
In 4, Preston College lost 5-13 at home to Hawks G & are now relegated next season into 5; Graham Andrews won all his 6. Hawks F won 12-6 at home to their closest rivals, MGS F to earn themselves promotion into division 3 next seasons. Whittle A beat Penwortham A 10-8 in a relegation battle. After an 8 all classic where Peter Nelson & Val Marsden won the final pair of games after midnight to win the match for the home team. They retain their division 4 status next year by beating their relegation rivals, but sadly the trap door has opened on Penwortham & is sadly relegated to 5 next year. 🙁 After a very tight match, Evergreens lost 8-10 to Clayton Crusaders B & the win guarantees promotion for the visitors next year. Despite being on the losing side, Ed Gilbertson was the MOTM on the evening for winning all his 6 games. Whittle B had a very tight match with Springfields D & after an 8 all classic, nothing could separate the teams. Julie Youngs & Tim Lawrence won 5 games for springs to be the strongest pair on the evening in the drawn match.
In division 5, Brindle won 10-8 at home to Evergreens C to leapfrog over their opponents on the tables. In a match where 6 sets were split, it was Linda Kozera who won 5 games to be the best player on the night in a tightly fought contest. Crusaders E made a rare appearance this week, they hosted Whittle C but lost the match 3-15 as all 3 ladies from Whittle won all of their 6 games each to assist in bagging all 4 points to keep them 4th on the tables. St. Andrews E beat a five sided Clayton Crusaders D 14-4 to keep a stranglehold on 2nd place on the tables. With just one match to play next week at home to Whittle D, Andy’s will still be looking over their shoulders as Preston College B have games in hand, but they have to play the division champs! Richard Andrew & Zoe Watts won 4 legal games each. Garstang B’s result with Whittle D had not landed by the time the report went out.
