Mid Lancs Week P

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in Division 1, Clitheroe A had a tough match against Hawks A in a scrabble for some points. At 3-5 down after the levels, Hawks surged ahead in the mixed to snuff out any hopes of the host’s chances of any points at all. Final score ended up at 5-13 as Hawks took the max points back home with them; Chris Hoyle & Chris Chu both won all of their 6 games.

St. Andrews A thrashed MGS B 17-1, only Rob Metcalfe & Alex Mackie winning the 1 game to setting stopped the complete whitewash. Karolyn Hustler was statistically the best player on the night as Andy’s move up into 3rd place with the 4 points.

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in Division 1, Carlton A took a giant leap towards safety when they beat Clitheroe A 11-7.  Phil Price was responsible for most of the damage; he won all his 6 games in 3rd Men’s slot to help bag the pts & earn the MOTM award.

MGS B got beat 3-15 by David Lloyd at home who keep in 3rd place on the tables with the 4 max points; Clarky was stat best.

The only match to survive in division 2 this week was MGS D verses their own C team. To be fair, the D team who lie in a troublesome spot at the bottom end of the table put up a great fight against the C team who are at the opposite end of the tables in the runners up spot. At 2-6 down after the levels, the D team fought back in the mixed, Martin Hobin & Alison P Truman winning the opening mixed set, but the C team sealed the win by winning the next 4 games. However, it was the D team who spoilt the C team’s victory parade by winning 3 of the 4 remaining games to take a vital bonus point that just might make a difference at the end of the season. Matty Timms was the MOTM on the night for winning all his 6 games.

The 6th set was won by Ian Hunter & Gail Monk to square the match again & then Jason Loffman & Jackie Atherton took the 7th to take Hawks 6-8 ahead. The final 2 sets were split which included Jason & Jackie taking the final game of the match 10-15 to end up winning the tie, 8-10. The result takes Hawks clear from danger, however MGS can still be caught by Clayton who have 2 games in hand. Jackie was LOTM for her 6.

In Division 3, nothing changed in the New Year for Carlton B, they thrashed MGS F 17-1; only Dave Bird & Rees Parry stopping the total whitewash. Andrea Phillips was stat best as Carlton keep a massive 11 point lead at the top.

Hawks D beat Evergreens B at home 14-4 to leave the opposition still fighting to avoid relegation.

Crusaders C fell 5-13 at home to Clitheroe B who remain in 3rd place with the 4 max points.

In 4, Project 12 delved deeper into relegation trouble when they lost 5-13 at home to Mythop. Linde Settle was responsible for most of the damage, she won all of her 6 games to be crowned LOTM & help Mythop move into pole position at the top.

Penwortham A had a clash with the current leaders of the division, St Andrews C and the hosts got off to a flying start when they went 6-2 up. A split opening mixed set was followed by Alan Turner & Caroline Coxen taking the hosts 9-3 ahead. A split set in the 7th ensured the win for Penwortham, but they marched on to take the match 13-5. Caroline was awarded the LOTM for winning all her 6 games & destroying St. Andrews who didn’t pick up any pts. The result takes both teams onto joint 3rd place on the tables as Mythop took advantage of Andy’s loss & moved into the top slot of the division with a match in hand.

Whittle A were beaten 5-13 at home to Garstang B who with the max 4 points move into 2nd place on the tables and the hero on the night was Andy Smerdon, he won all of his 6 games to be the MOTM on the night & help the team fight for promotion.

Preston College B had a tough match after the Xmas break with Penwortham B. At 5-3 up things were looking good for the home side, but a pair in the opening mixed for Penwortham tied the score at 5 all before Neil Duke & Jane Anthony took both games in set 6 to take College 7-5 ahead. Dave Jackson & Maureen Turner took a pair in the 7th set to square the match again & then set 8 was split to set up an 8 all classic in which Dave & Maureen won to take the final match score to 8-10. Maureen was the LOTM on the night for taking all of her 6 games at the crucial stage of the match.

In a rearranged match, Evergreens C hosted Penwortham B. The final score turned out to be 5-13 to catapult Penwortham into pole position on the tables with the maximum 4 point win, which makes the top of the table very interesting indeed!

As you can see from the attached tables, that is a normal full season over!  We still have another half season to go and as you can see from those tables, there is still a lot to play for and I can imagine it going down right down to the wire!!!

Now that the table matrix is now full, I cannot produce ‘my’ tables, as I’ve not figured out a program to do it yet; however the tables are unaffected on fixtures live and for now that will have to do!

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in Division 1, Clitheroe A took on MGS B who were on the same points (8) before the match kicked off & the hosts went 3-1 went up before MGS won the next 4 levels games to go into the mixed sets, 3-5 up. The opening mixed set was split when Keith Ashton & Alison Leaver came back from 0-12 to win the game 15-13 when they took on Tom Lowe & Lynne Hosegood. Then the onslaught began; MGS took the last remaining 8 games to win the match 4-14 and put 4 clear pts between their opponents, but Clitheroe still have a match in hand over them. There is another ‘interesting’ match on the horizon next week, when MGS A host David Lloyd & that is gonna be crucial….. trust me!

A five sided Crusaders A fell 2-16 at home to St. Andrews A who were smarting from last week’s drumming by David Lloyd.

David Lloyd hosted Cross Feathers and managed to take all 4 points off them in a 15-3 win to move them into 3rd place.

Report From Paul Eastham

In Division 1, Carlton A defeated bottom team Clayton Crusaders A to put themselves 5 points clear of the drop zone. In the 11-7 win, Caroline Andrew was the LOTM on the night for her 6 games & Sam Ames won 5 for Clayton.

MGS A went back to the top of the table this week with a 16-2 victory over their own B team. Jared Matthew, Becky Ashton and John Davenport all won their 6 games to be the best players on the night.

David Lloyd opened up the title race again when they beat the only team not to have lost a match this season, St. Andrews A. The big guns of David Lloyd blasted Andy’s into the middle of next week with a crushing 18-0 whitewash to go just 2 points behind the current leaders, with a match in hand and still are the firm favourites to lift the shield again.

Meanwhile, Cross Feathers whitewashed Clitheroe A 18-0 to go joint top of the table with MGS A.  As I keep saying, this year has been fab so far when it comes to a ‘open’ race & look forward to the final push in matches which will no doubt be ever so interesting to report on & next week David Lloyd host Cross Feathers! Absolutely eye watering stuff & I can’t wait!
