Mixed Tournament 2016/17

Message From Mark Pallett

Unfortunately due to the unavailability of Clayton Sports centre on most Sunday’s due to a club block booking, this venue has become unavailable for our league handicap tournaments.

I have been & still am actively trying to source another venue / courts for this tournament, but the likelihood now is that the Handicap Mixed Tournament, will be rescheduled for the New year (as well as the level doubles) & at a venue that still is TBC, as soon as I have more information I will endeavour to communicate it around the league ASAP.

Thanks for your understanding of this situation & accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused  with this matter.

Mid Lancs Week I

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in Division 1, MGS A came across their match when they hosted the reining Champs, David Lloyd. MGS were 2-6 down after the levels, but it could have been closer only for the visitors winning 2 setting games, but in the mixed it was a different story! David Lloyd marched on in the mixed only losing that very last game to make the final score, 3-15. Having said that, it was David Lloyd’s heaviest game loss of the season so far as Mark Tuttle & Darren Whitley won all their 6 games

In a rearranged match, Carlton A played against Hawks A and just managed to scrape the bonus point in the very last game of the match in a 6-12 defeat. Chris Foote, Michelle Skinner & Chris Chu all won 5 games each to help win the 3 points.

The very next night, Hawks A managed to win another match when they hosted MGS C. They ended up thrashing the bottom team 18-0 to take the max 4 points & 7 in total over the 2 nights to help thrust themselves way up the table.

MGS B crashed 2-16 at home to Cross Feathers who maintain a 2 point lead at the top of the division. Tom Lowe & Lynn Hosegood came close to winning more games in setting, but in the end it was 4 points in the bag for the visitors with Ste Andrews, Hayley Harrison & Rach Graham all winning their 6 games to help keep hopes up of bringing silverware home.

St. Andrews A beat Hawks B, 16-2 to be in joint 2nd place & leave the visitors in very murky relegation waters; 10 points clear of safety. Steve Taylor, Nicki McGrath & Lizzie Holt all won their 6 & next week they host Cross Feathers… Interesting!!

Mid Lancs Week H

Report From Paul Eastham

In Division 1, Hawks A got a fab 10-8 home win this week when they hosted MGS A. After the levels they were 5-3 ahead followed by 2 split sets and then won a pair in the 7th to go into a 9-5 lead. Jarred Mathew & Becky Ashton won both games in the 8th for MGS 8-15 & 16-17 to bring the match score back to 9-7; but Andy Owen & Emily Miller sealed the win in the final set & take the 3 pts to put a little daylight between them & the dreaded red line! Chris Chu won 5 games to be best.

After a very tight match MGS B lost 8-10 at home to Carlton A. MGS went into the mixed games at 3-5 down and the first 3 sets were split before MGS took a pair in the 8th to level the match to go into an 8 all classic. Dave Wiseman & Cath Bagley won the final pair of games 11-15 & 12-15 to seal the 8-10 win for Carlton to lift the away from the dreaded drop zone. Cath was also the best player on the night, winning 5 of her 6 games to help take the 3 points for the team.

David Lloyd thrashed Hawks B 18-0 to go into joint 2nd place on the tables; still only losing to games in their 5 matches! Statistically, I couldn’t split Ashlea Chester & Ruth Flatman for being the best players; they both conceded 20 pts out of their 6 games. Next week, I wonder if MGS A can show any resistance to David Lloyd when they visit Wellfield?

Cross Feathers went back to the top of the table this week with a 16-2 home win over MGS C as Ste Andrews & Hayley Harrison won all of their 6 games to assist in the max point win in the No 2 slot.

Mid Lancs Week G

Report From Paul Eastham:

This week in Division 1, Carlton A not only managed to beat Hawks B, but they took all the 4 points on offer in a 13-5 home win and the best player on the evening to help boost the hosts up the table was Kay Armer who took 5 of her 6 games.

Hawks A got beat on home turf by MGS B who shoot into a very respectable mid table position & in the 4-14 win for the visitors, Adrian Greenwood & Alex Mackie won 5 games each to be the best pair on the evening.

MGS C got thrashed 1-17 by their own A team who now move into joint 3rd place on the tables with the max 4 point win. Rob Metcalf & Cheryl Parry won the 1 game, 15-13 to stop the total whitewash as Alex Mackie was statistically the best.

Mid Lancs Week F

Report From Paul Eastham:

In division 1 this week David Lloyd thrashed MGS C 18-0 to keep their clean sheet rolling and stay on track for silverware.

Hawks B got a right old drumming off Cross Feathers. The score line was 0-18 as Fay Andrews was statistically best on the night to keep the team in 2nd and for their great run of matches, ive decided to give them a week off to have a rest!

MGS B got beat 2-16 by their own A team as Jared Matthew, Becky Ashton & Rachael Hewitt all won 6 to help the team keep 4th spot on the tables. However, it’s worth mentioning that 1 of the B team Ladies pulled out at the last minute & after a quick phone call, Cheryl Parry put her glass of wine down & sped over to Wellfield to help the B team out.  Great stuff!!

St. Andrews A beat Carlton A 16-2 to remain at the top of the table, but I fear that will probably be their last week enjoying the glory days of the past, as next week they face the current Champions, David Lloyd…. But you just never know!!!

Mid Lancs Week E

Report From Paul Eastham

In division 1, MGS A met with their old school rivals this week when they clashed with St. Andrews A. The match got off to a very tight start with the visitors just out in front at the end of the levels, 3-5. A pair for Pete Fearnes & Becky Ashton in the opening mixed put the match back on an even keel before a split set in the 6th & then Andy’s went into overdrive to win the remaining 6 games and won the match 6-12. Nicki McGrath was the LOTM on the night for taking all of her 6 games & help St. Andrews go to the top of the table; a place where they haven’t been for quite some time!!
Bottom team, Hawks B fought against the team above them where something had to crack, as neither team has taken a point yet this season. The match was all square at the end of the levels with hawks taking all 4 men’s & the visitors taking the ladies. A pair for Dan Porter & Debbie Smith in the opening mixed for Hawks put them in front & then the next 3 sets were split to take the score going into the final set, 9-7. Jason Loffman & Danya Lewis won the 1st game 14-17, but their bottle went in the last game as they surrendered 15-9 against Dan & Debbie, who managed to hold on for the victory & help get the teams 1st points of the season. Dan won 5 games, as did Hannah Burgess to be the best players on the night.
