Report From Paul Eastham
My very last report of the season comes to you from a very warm, sunny Costa Del Sol ??????????
It’s been a superb season with just 1 minor rule break that was down to a slight admin error at a club and the complex rules regarding playing up & down rule + the starring of players has been a credit to you all, so my sombrero goes off to you all.
In div 1, Carlton A took on Hawks A or judging by the players playing, I’d say a Hawks B! A very tight match indeed; the scores were square after the levels & then the visitors took a pair in the opening mixed before a split set in the 6th (5-7). Carlton then won 4 in a row to go 9-7 in front going into the final set. Dan Porter & Lisa Coulthard won the opener 3-15 for Hawks, but couldn’t hold out for the draw as John Bowker & Kay Amour won the final game of the match, 15-8 to set up a 10-8 home win for Carlton. Andy Wiseman & Cath Bagley both won 5 games each to be the best pair on the evening. David Lloyd had a 4 point max home win over MGS. In the 13-5 win, Emily Hollis was the LOTM on the evening for taking all of her 6 games. David Lloyd now need just 1 point from their final fixture against Carlton A to lift the shield for the 5th time. Hawks B got beat 3-15 at home to finish off their season by the Runners up of the division, Cross Feathers & now looks likely that they will tumble out of the division given their own C team may not get promoted. All 3 Ladies, Hayley, Rach & Fay won their 6 games to be the best players & congratulations to them all for becoming runners up in only their 2nd season. St. Andrews A beat MGS B 11-7 to climb away from that dreaded red line. Niki McGrath won 5 games to be the best on the night. As for MGS, they finish their season off in a very respectable position, their highest points tally in recent years and they normally have to rely on their C team winning division 2 to stop up, so very well done to them! Report From Paul Eastham:
In div 1 this week, Carlton A lost 5-13 to St. Andrews A who needed a max point win to get out of the unusual territory that they have found themselves in recently. A max 6 games for Ste Taylor & Nicki McGrath helped the team survive the drop.
MGS A had a battle with Hawks A and in an 8 all classic Tom Lowe & Joy Moon came up trumps to win the final pair of games 15-8 & 15-5 to help win the match 10-8 for MGS. Josh Hull won 5 for MGS as did Emily Miller for Hawks.
Hawks B got thrashed 1-17 by David Lloyd only Andy Owen & Emily Miller stopping the complete whitewash in the final set & now the team face relegation; only their C team coming runners up in division 2 will save them from going down.
Crusaders A fell 3-15 at home to MGS B who stay up in the division this year on their own merit; however for Clay is div 2.

Report From Paul Eastham
In div 1, MGS A took on their own B team and it wasn’t a breeze for them!. Pete Fearns was the MOTM for taking all of his 6 games in the 11-7 win, but I fear that the point lost in this tie will have cost them the chance of the runners up spot. Lynn Hosegood & Charlotte Heyes won 4 each to help get a vital bonus pt in the fight to stay up; Jen Rigby got a quack quack! J
Clayton A fell 6-12 at home to 2nd place Cross Feathers; I wouldn’t get too excited about the result as they turned up with 5!
St. Andrews A hosted Hawks B in an ‘’8 pointer’’ relegation match… never thought I’d say that about Andy’s (Ta Mr B for the idea!) In the hard fought match, it turned out to be 3 pts for Andy’s as they ran out 12-6 winners with Katie McWalters being the LOTM for her 6, but it’s worth mentioning that Hannah Burgess won 4 in her 1st outing ever for the A team!

Report from Paul Eastham
Division 1 kicked off this week with the match between Carlton A v Hawks B & the 1st 3 sets were all split to set the scene how the match was gonna pan out. The final levels were won by the home side to go 5-3 in front, but Hawks evened the score again taking a pair in the opening mixed. The match continued to sway either way until set 9 were the score stood at 8 all were Lee Clayton & Caz Grimbaldeston from Hawks won the 1st game, a nail-biting, 16-17 to go 8-9 up. But then John Bowker & Kay Armour won the final game 15-11 to earn a draw for Carlton; Andy Owen & Maxine Watson won 5 each.
David Lloyd beat St. Andrews A 16-2 to leave the visitors in very unfamiliar waters; just 4 points above the red line! I’m sure they will recover in the up & coming matches, but it’s been a shock to see the record breaking Champions so low in the league this year; Ste Taylor & Niki McGrath won the 2 to stop an embarrassing whitewash as Darren Whitley was MOTM.
Hawks A beat bottom team, Crusaders A 15-3 with a rare appearance from Sam Gorrell in the elite division. However, Sam did get a quack on the night as Andy Owen carried out of Clayton the MOTM award from the match for winning his 6 games.
Cross Feathers had a crucial match this week when MGS A came to visit them. The hosts, who in their 2nd season in the league are riding high this season in the runners up spot, a spot that MGS or St. Andrews have enjoyed for many years! The match kicked off with the visitors winning all of the Men’s & the host winning all of the Ladies. So, 4 all going into the mixed; then the 1st mixed set was split & in the 6th set MGS won both games to go 5-7 in front. But then, Cross Feathers ramped up the gear & took all of the remaining games to win the match 11-7 to brush MGS aside. The epic win keeps them in a very commanding 2nd place on the tables & 15 points ahead of their opponents & are favourites to pick up some high profile silverware in their just their 2nd season. Fay Andrews was the LOTM in this tie, she won all her 6 at the No 3 Ladies spot & it’s worth mentioning the great effort by Pete Fearns at 3rd Men’s for MGS, he won all his 6 of the 7 won by his team.

Cup Draws Round 2 Matches
All the teams that are first in the list will be the host for the matches. This time I have also included the handicaps for all the matches. The use of shuttles remains the same as last year splitting the cost between the teams. (£1 per shuttle)
Also please, when taking photos of the score sheet and sending them in please turn flash on, as some of them were hard to read as they were so dark. Cheers.
