Mid Lancs Week i

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A had a crucial match at home against Hawks B and what a tight match it turned out to be. At the end of the match, Carlton won the final 3 games to scrape a draw after being 6-9 down. MGS A beat Cross Feathers 11-7 to go into 2nd place on the table. An array of people from both teams won 5 games each to assist the team to take advantage of other results & move into the runner up spot, were they haven’t been for a long time! Hawks A hosted St. Andrews A & as expected the match was very tight. After the very close games in the levels, the score was all square at 4 all before Hawks shot out in front in the mixed taking 4 mixed games in a row for an 8-4 score. This was then followed by 3 split mixed sets to finish the match with an 11-7 win for Hawks moving them into 3rd; Ric Wallbank won 5 Springfields got beat 2-16 at home by the Champions, David Lloyd & it means Captain Pam’s mission of taking at least a game off every team has now got to the ½ way point. It was Pam & Alison P Truman who took the 2 games!  🙂

 Message from Jennifer Clough:

Hello everyone

Here are the cup draws for the preliminary round fixtures at the start of December. The home teams are marked with * and listed on the Cunningham Cup draw.

Please can you pass the details and the score sheet to your team captains? Please can you ask them to return the score sheets as soon as they can (both teams) and to keep file sizes down to about 2MB if possible if emailing?

The home team supplies shuttles but, as last year, shuttle costs are split between both teams with an average cost of £1 per shuttle.

The home teams will be drawn again for the first round in January after the preliminary round results are in.

Thanks very much and good luck!
Jennifer

Mid Lancs Week G

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, MGS A’s points tally continued when they beat Carlton A 11-7. Ashley Gibson won the MOTM award for taking his 6 games on the night and Carlton got another point to continue their climb away from the drop zone. Hawks A remained in 3rd place despite getting a rite battering off leaders, David Lloyd. Darren Whitley was stat the best. MGS B got off to a terrible start in their match when they hosted Hawks B, winning the opening game in setting & then losing the next 7 to be 1-7 down after the levels. The mixed bore more fruits, but time & sets ran out as the final score ended up 7-11 for the visitors. Andy Owen & Emily Miller won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the night.

Mid Lancs Week F

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A had their 1st win of the season when they beat Springfields A, 17-1. The current Champions, David Lloyd managed to overcome Cross Feathers with a 15-3 victory to take them top of the table. Rachael Coar was involved with winning the 3 for CF, but statistically the best player on the evening was Alan Clarkson. A super subbed MGS B fell at home to their own A team 0-18. A frantic 8pm call to super sub Janet Rance ensured the B side had a full squad and the ironic thing was that Janet & mixed partner Tom Lowe came within a whisker of taking a game off Julian Preistley & Rebecca Ashton, losing it in setting 14-17. Jenny Rigby was statistically best on the night.

Mid Lancs Week E

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A fought hard against MGS B, but lost 7-11 to remain in the drop zone. Hawks B lost 2-16 to David Lloyd with Chris Chu & Andy Owen taking the 2 games off them; Wendy Higgin was stat the best. Springfields A fell 3-15 at home to Hawks A, Rick Wallbank & Andy Owen picked up all of their 6. Alison P.T won the 3.
St. Andrews A stayed at the top of the table this week, but by the skin of their teeth! Nothing could separate the teams in the levels, but in the 1st mixed Andrews took both games & then the next 3 sets were split making the score 9-7 going into the final set. Fay Ormesher & Ryan Ashcroft took the 1st game 12-15 and incredibly were 6-14 up before losing the game in setting (17-14) to Joe Steele & Karolyn Hustler to give the win to Andrews! Every credit to Cross Feathers for taking St. Andrews to the wire, but they had Joe to thank for the 3 points, he helped to turned that final game around & won 5 games on the night.
