Mid Lancs Week N

In division 1, David Lloyd beat Hawks B 17-1; Emily Miller & Cathy Atfield won the 1 game for Hawks as DL march on! Hawks A beat Springfields A 17-1 to maintain a healthy 4th place; Clare Ashton & Alison P Truman won the single game. In a tough fight at the foot of the table MGS B battled with Carlton A in an epic relegation scrap. At 5-3 up after the levels, MGS had the upper hand, but in the mixed Carlton fought back and levelled the match to set up an 8 all classic. Andy Wiseman & Cath Bagley won the final pair of games for the visitors to win the match and take the 3 points to put both teams on the same points within the drop zone area. Carlton has Cath to thank for the 3 pts, she won her 6 for the LOTM. Cross Feathers threw a spanner in the works of St. Andrews’ runners up hopes! After losing the opening Men’s set, Cross Feathers took the remaining 6 games to be 6-2 up going into the mixed. Andy’s fought back in the mixed & after set 8 the score stood at 9-7 going into the final 2 games. Steve Taylor & Nicki McGrath won the 1st game 9-15, but Andy Rigby & Fay Ormesher won the final game 15-6 to help win the match 10-8 for Cross Feathers. Despite being on the side, Joe Steele was the MOTM for winning 6 and in the final weeks of the season, every match is gonna count for 4 of the top 5 teams!

In the last proper week of fixtures this year, David Lloyd hosted MGS B and sent them home with a 17-1 defeat; only Tom Lowe & Alex Mackie stopped the total whitewash by winning the 1 game. Clarky was statistically best on the night. Hawks B got beat at home 3-15 by MGS A who stop in 2nd place on the tables; Andy Finch & Julie Bates won 6 games each. Cross Feathers had a fine 11-7 win over 3rd placed team Hawks A. Mid Lancs Week K

Report by Paul Eastham

Despite my plea last week for new dates for matches to be played in December I’ve received just ‘TWO’ new dates & SIX more fixtures were postponed again this week, taking the total to 35 rearrangements on my list!!!!

In division 1 this week, Carlton A pulled a rabbit out of the hat when they beat 2nd place Hawks A, 10-8. The score was even after the levels & then Carlton won all the 4 mixed games in set 5 & 6 before Hawks squared the match again by winning sets 7 & 8. Then in the 8 all classic Dave Wiseman & Cath Bagley won the final pair of games 15-9 & 15-2 to pull off a remarkable victory but despite the 3 points, they stay in the drop zone! Cath also won the LOTM award for her 6 games. After last week’s emphatic win over old school rivals St. Andrew A, MGS A hosted Champions, David Lloyd & got a right old reaming! Only Pete Fearns & Ashley Gibson saved the complete whitewash by winning the single game in the 1-17 score. Hawks B beat Springfields A 16-2 & despite them wheeling out the lame & wounded (even I was asked to play!) they still remain on track to win at least a game a match. A refreshing change to see my mate Dave Ainscough back on court again!  🙂  MGS B were beaten at home by St. Andrew A, but not before Tom Lowe & Alex Mackie snatched the vital bonus point in the final set. In the 6-12 defeat, Nicki McGrath was back in the A team winning her 6 alongside Katie McWalters who also won 6.

Mid Lancs Week J

Report by Paul Eastham

In the first week of the turnaround, there were 7 postponed matches within the league, which nearly equates to a 1/3 of all fixtures. The postponed fixture list is now growing at a rapid pace (32) and I urge all clubs to look at rearranging some of this fixtures in prelim cup week w/c 1st Dec (if not drawn to play in this week) and w/c 15th Dec which is a dedicated week reserved by the fixtures committee for clearing some of the backlog. Please inform me of dates BEFORE they are played.

In division 1, Hawks A beat their own B team 12-6 to go back into 2nd place on the tables. Nick Hodgson won 5 games to be the best player on the night & the B team got a crucial bonus point to stay away from danger. Springfields A lost 4-14 at home to MGS B to stay rooted at the foot & still awaiting their very 1st division 1 point; however Captain Pam’s mission still continues to pick up at least a game off every team. Jared Mathew was MOTM for his 6 games.
St. Andrews A clashed with their old school rivals MGS A & the match was even after the levels before Andy’s went 6-4 ahead in the 1st mixed, this was followed by 2 split sets in 6 & 7. In set 6, MGS won both to leave a nail-biting 9th set decider. Pete Fearns & Julie Bates won both games 13-15 & 6-15 to give MGS the 3 pts to stay 2nd; Tim Vickers won 5 to be the best. Fay Ormesher took home the LOTM award when she took her 6 games for Cross Feathers when they won 11-7 at home to Carlton A who are now 4 points from safety and next week face Hawks A who may pile more misery on them!  😥
