St Andrews E v Whittle D – 13th March 2014

Team: Jane, Anne, Zoe, Alex, Ben, Richard
Result: Won 14-4

Our final match of the season saw early setting in the first mens’, steady performance in the ladies’ and splitting event 3 for Ben & Alex leaving us a solid 7-1 up after the levels. Whittle were determined to improve on their score last time round and fought back to split events 6, 7 and 8 before Zoe & Richard took the last 2 games (& the full 6 games apiece) to make it 14-4 and the full 4 points. This secures our runners up spot in division 5 and a great overall season led by our super-fab captain Jane. Thanks also to our other players not in this match’s line up ie Graham, Seb, Chris, Laura, Helen R and Karen P (sorry if missed anyone!).

Mid Lancs Week R

Reports from Paul Eastham:

In the last fixture week of the season, David Lloyd B had a relegation battle with Hawks B and as expected it was a tight match. Hawks got off to a cracking start & were 2-6 up after the levels before DL fought back in the mixed, but the visitors went over the finishing line in the 8th set to take the points home; final score, 8-10. Ric Wallbank was MOTM for his 6 games. Hawks A hosted St. Andrews A in a ‘6 pointer’ runner up decider match and again, as expected it was another close match that took place. After the levels the score stood at 3-5, but the home side fought back in the mixed taking both set 5 & 6. Andy’s then took the next 4 games in 7 & 8 to leave the score at 7-9, but Nick Hodgson & Faye Ormesher won the final pair of games to earn a draw for Hawks & keep their team in 2nd place after their final match of the season. The point’s difference between the 2 teams is 10 points, but Andy’s have 3 games to play, so the pressure is all on them to take the points on offer to become runners up once again. Nick was MOTM for taking all of his 6 games in this extremely tight top of the table clash. St Andrews B got thrashed at 1-17 home by the Champs, David Lloyd A. Mark Tuttle was statistically best on the evening.

MId Lancs Week Q

Report From Paul Eastham:

In division 1 this week, Andy Owen & Michelle Skinner from Hawks B won the crucial game in the final set to help win their match 10-8 when they played Carlton A. The result moves those 6 points clear of the red line, but only a single match left to play …. And that is against DLB who are their relegation rivals! Ric Wallbank won 5 games to be the best player. MGS B where thrashed 1-17 by David Lloyd A to leave them dangling just 2 points above the drop zone…. Gulp! Hawks A won 17-1 at St. Andrews B to stay in a solid 2nd place and give themselves a chance to earn the runners up spot. Their remaining match, next week, is at home to the only team that can catch them….. St. Andrews A!!!!! If Hawks win the match, they have a good chance of taking the runners up spot for over 12 years, but I’m sure Andy’s will have a big shout in that happening and I for one, just can’t wait for that match to take place! Nick Hodgson was statistically best on the night. Continue reading “MId Lancs Week Q”

Mid Lancs Week P

Report From Paul Eastham:

In division 1 this week, MGS A took all 4 points off Hawks B in a 17-1 win; Suanne Bly was statistically best on the evening. Hawks A beat Carlton A 14-4 to take all 4 points & take advantage of the DLA result. Anthony Pratt & Jenny Hewitt won all of their 6 games to be the best pair. Hawks host St. Andy’s in 2 weeks’ time… it just might be the runners up decider! MGS B took all 4 points off bottom team, St. Andrews B to help them in their relegation battle. They now sit 2 points clear of the dreaded red line as Claire Banfield & Lucy Hunt both chipped in with 5 games each to assist the team in the 13-5 win. St. Andrews A clashed with the leaders, David Lloyd A, but where demolished at home by 3 games to 15. Clarky & Mark Tuttle did their usual damage to sink Andy’s & retain the division 1 shield for the 3rd season on the trot. Congratulations to them & the result leaves their opponents now scrapping with Hawks A for the runners up spot in 2 weeks’ time! Last week, David Lloyd B beat St. Andrews B 15-3 to climb within 2 pts of safety… but have games in hand over their rivals.
