Janet Dalton would like me to remind you that its ladies night at the Eagle on Wednesday the 9th of June. On the agenda for discussion is a day out at Chester on the 25th of June, followed by a trip to the races course for the Ladies Evening meeting. All interested please contact Janet, and if you don’t know how to do that contact me and pass on the details.
In the days before cameras were invented we had to draw everything by hand. Look!
What a great night for the club. As well as picking up winners trophies for Division 1, Division 3, Philips Cup, (one half of) the mens doubles, intermediate ladies doubles and intermediate mens singles, Liz Holt won player of the season, and we were awarded club of the season. Brilliant.
Great social night as well. Hope you all enjoyed it and if you have any snaps send them on to me and I’ll stick them on our web site. I think some of you might need a reminder that you were actually there!
Janet Dalton would like me to remind you that its Ladies Night in the Eagle and Child next Wednesday the 19th if May @ 8pm – all (ladies!) welcome.
If you have collected any Tesco vouchers for the club Janet will be happy to take them off your hands at the presentation on Friday. Failing that bring them to club night and I will take them and pass them on to her.
Laura has sent me some pics from Isollabellas night out. Good night out!

Message From Jennifer Clough:
MGS, Hawks & St Andrews Win! Three entertaining matches saw MGS D, Hawks D and St Andrews E win the cup finals last Thursday night at Clayton Green.
In the Cunningham Cup, David Lloyd B and MGS D had a close fought match throughout with David Lloyd gradually eating away at the 80 point handicap advantage of MGS until, after 7 games, they were only 12 points apart. MGS though kept up the pressure in the last 2 games and won by just 16 points!
The Wrennall Cup saw Brindle A take on Hawks D. Brindle A had only a 20 point handicap difference but in a challenge for the umpires they also had 5 serves! This match saw some of the closest games of the night including Les Halton & Selina Walton (Brindle) and Dave Sherrington & Beth Cowell (Hawks) ending 14-15 and 15-14. Hawks handled the pressure well, gradually stacking up the points throughout and although Brindle kept going, Hawks ran out winners by 60 points.
St Andrews E took on Brindle B in the Phillips Cup final with Brindle giving Andrews a 50 point start and a couple of serves. This match was played with a really good atmosphere thanks to the teams themselves and the many supporters who turned out. Brindle put up a good fight but St Andrews (Sam Pattison, Lucy Halsall, Stuart Grice, Katie Burgess, Josh Robinson and Lily Simmons) played really well and won a comprehensive and well deserved victory.
The official results (after points are added/deducted):
- Cunningham Cup – David Lloyd B – 209 points v MGS D – 225 points
- Wrennall Cup – Brindle A – 202 points v Hawks D – 262 points
- Phillips Cup – Brindle B – 117 points v St Andrews E – 296 points
I’d like to thank the supporters who came along and the teams themselves for making a great cup final atmosphere. Thanks as always go to the handicap committee for their efforts at the start and during the season and to Yunus and all the umpires/service judges for finals night. I hope everyone enjoyed the games. Hope to see you at the dinner.
Jennifer (Cup Match Secretary)
