St Andrews E v St Peters

Team: Lily, Hannah, Charlotte S, Richard, Graham, Harry.
Result: Won 13-5
The Ruby team made an excellent start to the season away at St Peters which is not an easy venue for St Andrews players due to the low ceiling . After a shaky start by the men, the ladies showed their superiority leaving us 6-2 up after the levels. St Peters pulled back to 7-5 but after getting used to the venue and the opposition we finished strongly taking the last 6 games to come away with maximum points. Everyone did their bit but Hannah deserves a special mention taking all her 6 games.

St Andrews D vs Clitheroe C

Team : Sam, Josh, Colin, Lucy, Lily, Charlotte S
Result: 16-2 Win

A comprehensive win, and what a great start to the season. I think Clitheroe were fielding a slightly inexperienced side, but we still had to beat them. 6 games each for Sam, Lucy and Colin, with Sam and Lucy racking up two 15-0 games playing their mixed games. Thanks to the players from the “Ruby” Division who helped us out.Smile with tongue out

Phillips Cup Winners

Team : Sam, Lucy, Dave, Janet, Colin, Charllotte

Result : Win 230 – 136.

Brilliant result, St Andrews D totally dominated the match despite St Peter having 5 serves to 2 and a 90 point start. Not a single game was dropped and the 90 point deficit was wiped out at the start of the 5th set and the match won by the 8th set. Thanks to the players for an exceptional cup run. I can honestly say that apart from the 1st round I thought we were up for some tough matches, but we really pulled out great performances and have not been in danger in any of the last 3 games. Well done to everyone.

St Andrews E v Evergreens C

Result: Draw 9 all

Team:  Josh Graham Stuart Charlotte Anne Hannah
It was 4 all after the levels – due entirely to the ladies efforts!
However, due to the strength of our ladies it  looked like we had a chance to  do something in the mixed and so it proved.
We got to 8 all with Graham and Anne to play their No 1 couple who had been well beaten by Josh and Charlotte – so we fancied our chances.
We took the first one but could not make it two –  another chance for glory missed.
However  a draw  away to a team 4th in the league was still a creditable result.
This team could be fighting for promotion next season if the younger members keep improving and the older one can keep going.

St Andrews E v Clayton Crusaders C

Team: Josh Graham Stuart Katie Anne Hannah

This was a tough match against good opponents.

We took an early lead after the mens and ladies doubles but their first mixed pairwere too good for us and they got back to 8 all.

Well done Josh and Katie for holding their nerve to pull us through to win 10-8,  but above all  this was a good team performance as everyone won 3 or 4 games.

Result : Win 194 –157

Closest result so far, but the win was never really in doubt. We wiped out the 60 point head start in the first 3 sets and our opponents were always behind after that despite taking 5 games from us. Sam and Lucy were best on the night winning all their games. On to the Final! Smile
