Very good result this week, with some help from our super subs Helen and Charlotte.
With the heatwave that we had this week, it made the hall at MGS very hot and tested some players temperaments (not from St Andrews) After a verbal exchange between two of the opposition with each other, it made for a bad atmosphere on court. Luckily it was towards the end of the match, so we didn’t have to suffer it for too long! When the game is meant to be played in good spirit, it’s not something that we hope will be repeated.
Team: Graham, Richard, Harry, Hannah P, Charlotte S, Hannah B
Result: Won 16-2
Young Hannah B had a brilliant debut to league badminton playing at number three and came within two points of taking all her 6 games. Little and large at no. 1 pairing dropped the other game so Richard and Charlotte were the stars with their 6 games each.
This was a confidence boosting win but there are tougher matches to come.
Team: Sam, Josh, Colin, Lucy, Anne, Charlotte H
Result : 11-7 Win
Another good win, this time against an experienced Brindle team. Big Sam was best on the night picking up 5 games. There were 5 split sets on the card, with 2 games going to 17-16, so it was probably a fair result in the end.
Next Match : Hawks F, Tuesday the 4th of October @ Clayton 7:00pm
Team: Baz,Daz ,Dave ,Val, Lucy H , Janette
Result:14 –4 Win
A great start the season considering all the team were blighted by injury or infection!! After splitting the first mens game it looked like it might be a bit of an uphill battle, but we pressed on, just showing that experience rather than fitness got us through!! Special mention to Lucy Halsall who pulled Daz out of the quagmire a few times! Good win…lets hope we can keep it up 🙂
Team: Lily, Hannah, Charlotte S, Richard, Graham, Harry.
Result: Won 13-5
The Ruby team made an excellent start to the season away at St Peters which is not an easy venue for St Andrews players due to the low ceiling . After a shaky start by the men, the ladies showed their superiority leaving us 6-2 up after the levels. St Peters pulled back to 7-5 but after getting used to the venue and the opposition we finished strongly taking the last 6 games to come away with maximum points. Everyone did their bit but Hannah deserves a special mention taking all her 6 games.
