Mid Lancs Week E

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A fought hard against MGS B, but lost 7-11 to remain in the drop zone. Hawks B lost 2-16 to David Lloyd with Chris Chu & Andy Owen taking the 2 games off them; Wendy Higgin was stat the best. Springfields A fell 3-15 at home to Hawks A, Rick Wallbank & Andy Owen picked up all of their 6. Alison P.T won the 3.
St. Andrews A stayed at the top of the table this week, but by the skin of their teeth! Nothing could separate the teams in the levels, but in the 1st mixed Andrews took both games & then the next 3 sets were split making the score 9-7 going into the final set. Fay Ormesher & Ryan Ashcroft took the 1st game 12-15 and incredibly were 6-14 up before losing the game in setting (17-14) to Joe Steele & Karolyn Hustler to give the win to Andrews! Every credit to Cross Feathers for taking St. Andrews to the wire, but they had Joe to thank for the 3 points, he helped to turned that final game around & won 5 games on the night.

Mid Lancs Town Team Report

Report From Dave Burridge

Mid Lancs Double Victory

The new Inter league season started with a double header in Southport with our 2nd and 4th teams taking on their Southport league equivalents. The Sunday evening start, coupled with a long trek to Birkdale,  wasn’t too popular with some of our team who favoured a more relaxing Sunday!

In the contest between 2nd teams, Lisa Coultard proved too strong for Hannah Burgess in the singles. Chris Chu and Andy Owen were keen to take on the singles with Chris reportedly having a warm up session before arriving! Unusually we had 3 men wanting to play singles and a 4th willing, if pressed! Chris enjoyed local bragging rights with an emphatic victory over Rob Courtley. Andy Owen also won comfortably against Southport’s promising youngster Josh Wilkie.

Mid Lancs Week D

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, MGS A battled with Hawks A, who up to press haven’t lost a match yet, but that changed as the visitors bubble burst with a heavy 15-3 defeat by the hosts. Jen Rigby & Julie Bates were the best players on the evening, they won all of their 6 games to ensure all the 4 points went in the bag & help thrust their team into 4th place on the table. David Lloyd made light work of Carlton A when they brushed them aside with an 18-0 thrashing; Clarky was statistically best
Springfields A managed to keep their promise of the season to take at least one game of each opponent by taking a single game off St. Andrews A & it was so nearly 2 games but a rare appearance by Mr P stopped that in setting in the 7th set. Cross Feathers are so far doomed not to play at home this season as MGS B cried off!  😥

Mid Lancs Week C

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A lost to top of the table team, St. Andrews A. In the 16-2 win, Steve Pallett was statistically the best player on the evening & I predict more destruction next week when they travel to Springfields!  😥 Getting the 2 ‘big guns’ out of the way, MGS A got back on track with their 1st win of the season at home to Hawks B. The 17-1 win saw Pete Fearns as statistically the best player on the night; next week they face Hawks A… mouth-watering!  Talking of mouth-watering fixtures, Hawks A took on the newbies in the division, Cross Feathers. The match started as I expected; all square after the levels, but the hosts took a very commanding lead in the mixed, only losing 1 game and therefore running out 13-5 winners. In the 4 point win, Nick Hodgson & Rick Wallbank won all of their 6 to keep then in 2nd. MGS B got their annual thrashing from current champs, David Lloyd. Jared Matthew & Tom Lowe won the single game!

Mid Lancs Week B

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week David Lloyd sprang into action on home turf with an emphatic 17-1 victory over MGS A. The only game that saved a complete whitewash was the one Becky Ashton & Jen Rigby picked up; Darren Whitley was stat the best. Hawks A beat Carlton A 16-2 to keep 2nd spot on the tables. Jenny Hewitt was statistically the best player out of the 4 who won all of their 6 games. I wonder how they will face next week when they host the newbies in league; Cross Feathers? Springfields A lost at home 2-16 to Hawks B who, trust me worked very hard to get the 2 games! However, I’ve heard on the grapevine that Pam has said that the main aim of Springfields mission is to make sure no team wins 18-0…. Very brave! 🙂 St. Andrews A maintained pole position at the top of the table with a 15-3 win over MGS B. Katie McWalters was statistically best player on the evening in this match winning all of her 6 at 3rd Ladies. Andy’s now march on to Carlton next week were I predict more destruction from the leaders & MGS B face David Lloyd….. Nough said!!!!  😥

Mid Lancs Week A

Report by Paul Eastham

Well, here we go again… the 2014/15 season has kicked off & a huge thank you for the prompt cards to get this report out in record time! The easiest way is to take a photo with your smart phone & email it to me at pjs.eastham@gmail.com

The 1st result in division 1 of the new season was a clash between the ‘old school’ comprising of MGS A v St. Andrews A. First blood in this clash went to MGS, they won the opening Men’s, but after that it was virtually all Andy’s as they took all 4 points in a 4-14 victory. All 3 Ladies (Liz, Karolyn & Katie) walked away from the match with a clean sheet in this tie. On the same evening, Carlton A hosted a new team in our league; Cross Feathers… but some very familiar faces/names made up this awesome team who tore the hosts apart with a 5-13 maximum point victory. Last seasons ‘Player of the Year’, Fay Ormesher & Hayley Harrison won all their 6 games to steer their club to victory & come back home with all of the 4 pts.
