This week’s report comes from my sun lounger on the ‘usual’ sunny coast of mainland Spain, the Costa Del Sol where violent thunderstorms took place on Tue night & torrential rain took place on the island of Majorca where several people were killed in the flooding that took place. I am pleased to say that normal ???? has now now resumed and from here the view is fab!!
I have just heard that the handbooks are now ready for collection & will get them out to you ASAP when I’m back.
Division 1 started this week when Hawks A hosted Carlton A. The hosts went 5-3 up in the levels after some setting games and Andy Owen & Michelle Skinner won the opening mixed set to build a 7-3 lead. In the 6th, Rob Courtney & Elaine Danson won both to take Hawks to a draw score, 9-3. Nick Hodgson & Jenny Mx won a pair in the 7th to take Hawks home & dry before Carlton won the remaining 4 games to steal the bonus pt in the final 11-7 score line. Nick Hodgson was the POTM for his 6.
The ‘old school’ met this week at the Parish church Hall when St. Andrews A hosted MGS A, but it didn’t turn out to be an old school score though, as the ex champs from years gone by beat them 14-4 to sit proudly at the top of the table on 15 points & not lost a match…. Yet! Liz Holt was the POTM on the evening, she was the only one to have taken all of her 6 games.
David Lloyd took no mercy when they thrashed Hawks B 16-2 to surge up the table; Clarkey was stat best on the night.
Cross Feathers hosted MGS B and went 6-2 up after the levels due to the men’s being split & the home side winning all the ladies games. A split opening mixed was followed by MGS taking both games in the 6th to pull the score back to 7-5 & on the brink of the visitors taking something home on the night. However, Cross Feathers went into overdrive & took the remaining 6 games to win the match 13-5 & deny MGS of any points. Fay Andrews was the POTM on the evening for winning all of her 6 games and help the team surge up the table into 2nd place, knocking MGS off their perch.

Report From Paul Eastham
Week C kicked off in division 1 when Carlton A hosted MGS C and got off to a flying start by winning 7 of the 8 levels games. They went through the winning line in the rest of the mixed sets only losing 4 in all over the entire match to leave MGS at the rock bottom of the table. At least MGS got their 1st division 1 games of the season! Andrea Neville was stat best on the night.
MGS A fell 5-13 at home this week when they hosted David Lloyd. The match didn’t get off to good start as Katie Dixon Turner was unwell and conceded most of her 6 allocated games in the match. A hard uphill struggle then for MGS to play against a David Lloyd team & found themselves only winning 5 games to give the visitors all 4 pts. Matt Timms won 4 games to be best.
Hawks A crashed at home when they lost 4-14 to St. Andrews A, who stay in a commanding position with the 4 max points. The table topping team are now without Ash Gibson who confirmed to me this week he has ruptured his achilles tendon L
MGS B beat Hawks B moved into the dizzy heights of 2nd place on the tables with a 15-3 max point win over Hawks B. Adrian Greenwood, Alex Mackie & Lynn Hosegood all picked up 6 games…Take a snap of the tables guys; it’s Cross Feathers next week!

The August Bank holiday is on its way which means we will be switching from Monday Night Summer club to regular Wednesday Night Club Night from next week (29th of August).
The league formation was sent out last time, and the changes mean that there are just 4 divisions and we have a team in each one. The first week of fixtures all look strangely similar as they feature three St Andrews vs Evergeens match ups.
Matches start week beginning the 17th of September.
League Formation 2018-2019
||Preston College A
||St. Andrews D
|St. Andrews A
||St. Andrews B

Message From Paul Eastham:
The fixtures committee met in July to form the league.
As every year, we are always challenged in what we should do and the way forward.
We had a great format last year with the season and a half with great feedback and we wanted to continue with the same format this season but it meant that 2 teams that had gained promotion would not have been allowed to earn their just rewards due to us losing 3 teams ( MGS E, Whittle A, Clayton E) and trying to balance out all the divisions evenly.
Therefore after a lot of deep discussion, we had to take the very harsh decision to drop down to 4 divisions.
We will now revert back to just a full season again as we have 9 teams in divisions 1 & 2 and 10 teams in divisions 3 & 4. (Assuming we have no other teams withdrawing!)
One saviour is that we have a new team in the league, Mythop B.
Having 4 divisions will have implications on the cups and we will seek approval from an EGM at the registration meeting to introduce a new cup competition that will mean that each division will now hold their own handicapped cup.
The EGM & registration meeting will take place at St. Andrews on Monday 10th September at 7.30pm. A reminder will be sent out!
(Preston College B dropped out after Formation meeting so only 9 teams in D4)
We have a few going to the Mid Lancs Presentation at Wellington Park on Friday. Its the usual script, the bar opens at 6:30pm, and everyone should be seated at their table by 7:00pm.
No major news from the League AGM. The League Officers were voted to continue en-mass, and there were no rule changes. There may be some teams dropping out/coming back TBC.
We have moved club nights to Mondays, and next week will be the final Club Night prior to a break for the Bank Holiday, and then a switch to Summer Club mode from June the 4th.
