Mid Lancs Week B

This week in Division 1, Carlton A had a cracking home match against MGS B; they got off with a brilliant 7-1 start in the levels, but were pinned back down in the mixed as MGS fought hard to salvage something out of the match. A split opening mixed set was followed by John Bowker & Sian Meakin winning a pair in the 6th to win the match, but MGS fought back to steal the bonus point from them as the final match score was finalised at 11-7.

MGC C wanted to go up last year into the elite division, because they had earned the right and fancied the challenge! Well, for the second week on the trot they got thrashed 0-18, this time by their own A team who now move into 2nd place on the tables. Jared Matthew was statistically the best player on the night; as for the C team…. I think the pain is gonna continue all season!

David Lloyd opened their account this week when they hosted St. Andrews A. At the end of the levels, David Lloyd found themselves 3-5 down & went further in trouble when Ash Gibson & Liz Holt won a pair in the opening mixed set to go 4 ahead. Alan Clarkson & Joanna Holt won their opening mixed games to pull the score back to 5-7, but in the 7th set Ste Taylor & Nicki McGrath won both games to take the score to 5-7. In the crucial 8th set, Alan & Joanna too on Ash & Liz, but disaster stuck for Andy’s as Ash retired hurt after a suspect Achiles injury & had to concede both games (7-9). However, in the final set, Ste & Nicki managed to win the last 2 games, both to a nail-biting 13 to win the match 7-11 & go joint top of the table as Nicki was the POTM on the night, taking all of her 6 games…. Would have it been Ash?…… who knows!!!! J  (Speedy recovery mate!)

Cross Feathers built on last week’s success by beating Hawks A 15-3 to sit jointly at the top of the table with St. Andrews A.

Mid Lancs Weeks G

Report From Paul Eastham

In Division 1 this week, MGS A went to the top of the table with a 14-4 win over bottom team, Clayton Crusaders A.

Hawks A took all 4 points in a 13-5 victory over MGS B to take them to a snug mid table position.

David Lloyd didn’t have any drama this week and it was back to usual business as they beat Clitheroe A 16-2. Clarky was statistically the best player on the night… probably because everyone else is out injured!! J

Cross Feathers took all 4 points in a fine 17-1 win over opponents Carlton A to take them into joint 2nd place on the tables with St. Andrews. Ste Andrews was statistically the best player on the night in the No 2 slot.

For me, being absolutely neutral… as you all know!! The top of the table has never looked so exciting! The top 4 teams, all past winners of some kind are being separated by just 5 pts with Andy’s & David Lloyd having a game in hand over the others and ‘they’ have still got to play each other! Something or someone is gonna crack…. Or is it.. Will it be like this to the end? J
