Message from Rob Petch re EGM tonight

Subject: Mid Lancashire Badminton Leage: Meeting (17 November 10)

Hi All

Just a reminder that we have EGM before the commencement of the Committee Meeting this Wednesday

EGM will start at 19:30 hrs, Welcome Tavern, Lostock Hall

The EGM has been organised for the purpose of voting on the officer’s proposal for both the Chairman and Vice Chairman roles: –

  • Chairman – Paul Eastham
  • Vice Chairman – Jenny Clough / Mark Pallett (Post share)

The officer’s are also proposing the following rule amendment:-

33 (d) Any nominated player who plays on four occasions for any higher
ranked team will become a nominated player for that team. A player who
is not nominated at the start of the season or joins the League mid
season can play on four separate occasions in the League. On the fourth
occasion they will become a nominated player for the highest ranked
team they have played for and thereafter Rule 33 (a & c) will apply.

Can you please be aware that all members of the league are able to attend the EGM.

St Andrews E v Hawks F

Team: Stu, Josh, Little sam, Charlotte, Lily and Hannah

The youngsters (and Stu) put up a brave fight last night but were overcome by a more experienced team. We definitely won on average age with Hannah “Spanner” Pallett playing only her 2nd league game bringing the average age to just over 16 (even with Stuart!). They shouid be commended in the manner in which they conducted themselves, such as smiling throughout and praising the opposition for good shots. This is a quality rarely seen in more experienced players and they are a real credit to the club. If there were prizes for fair play and a great attitude we would definitely be top of the league.

Well done everyone I am proud of you

E team versus D team

(A bit late I know but Im not as good as Colin at this!!!)

The “youngsters” season started on Monday as we took on the D team, which included 4 defectors from last year! Although the score was 15 -3 the games where much closer, with several games being nip and tuck all the way. A sterling performance from our new skipper Stu (keep it simple) Grice and a solid performance by  Lily(I’ve got a new racket) Simmons, who won the 3 games with her partners. Praise should go to all though, as we have shown much improvement from last year. Also credit to the D team who really had to step up their game and were worried on more than one occasion during the night! Good luck to both teams this season lets go for a 1st and 2nd place in division 6, and best wishes to our rejects, I mean defectors, I mean old team members, Dave Mell, Big C H, Big Sam and Big Erik Hassle!

E team – Stu Grice, Josh (tall Man)Robinson, Little Sam Johnson, Charlotte (Sainsburys) Salisbury, Katie (head scarf) Burgess, Lily Simmons

Club of the Year

We have been nominated for the  club of the year prize at the South Ribble Sports Awards. The presentation for this is on Friday 25th June at the Civic Centre. At the moment Colin and Darren will be attending but if anyone else would like to go the tickets are £25 which includes a 2 course buffet. This is a real honour and hopefully we will be rewarded for all the hard work and enthusiasm that all our members put into this club to help make it so successful. Please let Helen know before Thursday of this week if you would like a ticket. Fingers crossed that we win!

Well what a great end to the season! The E team blew away the opposition last night in the final of the Phillips Cup. the team was Big Sam, Stuart (play it straight) Grice, JoshTall Man Robinson, Lucy (Erik) Halsall, Katie(tango) Burgess, Lily(Jelly dance) Simmons. However credit should also go to the people who played valuable parts in getting us to that stage Charlotte Sainsburys, Little Sam, and Alex(hop along) Heyes. well done everyone undefeated since Christmas and a trophy to boot!!

Last night saw an emphatic double victory for the 5th team (featuring Grandpa Harrison)when we  managed to field two 5th teams to play both a cup game and league match on the same evening. That is a great acheivement in itself. But then to go and destroy the opposition, winning the cup match by over 100 points, and to beat the division leaders in the league, was fantastic!!

All players should be congratulated on a tremndous team effort, not to forget contributions from our experienced sub Graham Harrison and great captaincy from non playing Alex.

Well done to all!
