St Andrews E v Whittle D – 7th December

Team: Charlotte S, Lily, Hannah B, Richard, Graham, Harry.
Result: Won 15-3

It was back to the usual “rubies” team away to Whittle this week, making a strong start through to a 7-1 lead after the levels, with Graham and Harry dropping a close second game in event 3. Things then got even better with the arrival of tea and chocky biscuits before a few tougher games for all 3 mixed couples, with 2 going to setting. Harry and Hannah fought well to secure their second game in event 6 whilst Graham and Lily cruised through the final 2 games to a 15-3 victory. Great effort and games tallies for the whole team with Charlotte and Richard getting the full 6. Nice to get all 4 points to finish the year but our close rivals will be “champing at the bit” in 2012 !!

St Andrews E v Clayton Crusaders C

Team: Jane, Anne, Hannah B, Richard, Graham, Alex.
Result: Won 16-2

After losing a close opening game, we quickly got into our stride to take the next 11 games with a mixture of convincing victories and a few close games. Despite dropping a close game in event 7 and then Richard and Jane falling asleep temporarily in event 8 we still took all the remaining games with Graham and Anne cruising us to maximum points for the third time this season! Special thanks to Anne, Jane and Alex for filling the ranks this week – sweets were freely offered as rewards for being on best behaviour! A great 1st match in ages for Alex taking 5 games and top marks for Hannah and Jane who won all their 6 games.

St. Andrews “E” v Hawks “G” – 31st October

Team: Charlotte S, Lily, Hannah B, Richard, Graham, Harry.
Result: Won 10-8

Despite a week off, the “rubies” fought a nail-biting away match against the only undefeated side in the division to steal a satisfying victory. Very close games early on for Harry and Hannah set the scene for the night and after the levels the hosts were 5-3 up with Graham and Lily frustrated not to take both their games. Our third pair (H & H) stormed through with confidence in event 6 to level the scores 6 all. Hawks responded strongly to edge 8-6 up before Charlotte and Richard made hard work of leveling the scores once again at 8-8. Under pressure and with a chance to redeem themselves, Graham and Lily didn’t disappoint, delivering a cool 15-13 win before really “getting in the groove” with a triumphant match winning 15-4 final game. Heaps of effort all round – got to keep the pressure on now!

St Andrews E v Whittle C – 12th October

Team: Charlotte S, Lily, Hannah B, Richard, Graham, Harry.
Result: Lost 6-12

Two weeks on from a resounding victory against the “D” team, the “ruby team” met the more experienced Whittle “C” at their place. After a first game win for Harry, the opposition then went into a commanding 6-2 lead after the levels. Richard and Charlotte fought to get all 4 of their games but copious consumption of chocolate biscuits, tea, crisps and a wide selection of sweets by “the rubies” couldn’t prevent Whittle getting into their stride towards the 12-6 victory. The home team took 6 of the last 8 games despite great efforts by Lily, Hannah and Graham to make them work for 4 close games.

St Andrews E v Evergreens C

Team: Charlotte S, Lily, Hannah B, Richard, Harry, Robert.

Result: Won 11-7

Another good away win and creditable E team debut for Robert with a 15-1 first game! The men split their sets and the ladies dragged us back to 6-2 after the levels. Games were won by all, including great performances by Hannah and Charlotte (who each got 5 games) and four close games for Harry and Lily finishing the night with a fab 15-13 final game win. A really friendly Evergreens team but “no mercy” next time!
