Mid Lancs Week I

Report From Paul Eastham

This week in Division 1, MGS A came across their match when they hosted the reining Champs, David Lloyd. MGS were 2-6 down after the levels, but it could have been closer only for the visitors winning 2 setting games, but in the mixed it was a different story! David Lloyd marched on in the mixed only losing that very last game to make the final score, 3-15. Having said that, it was David Lloyd’s heaviest game loss of the season so far as Mark Tuttle & Darren Whitley won all their 6 games

In a rearranged match, Carlton A played against Hawks A and just managed to scrape the bonus point in the very last game of the match in a 6-12 defeat. Chris Foote, Michelle Skinner & Chris Chu all won 5 games each to help win the 3 points.

The very next night, Hawks A managed to win another match when they hosted MGS C. They ended up thrashing the bottom team 18-0 to take the max 4 points & 7 in total over the 2 nights to help thrust themselves way up the table.

MGS B crashed 2-16 at home to Cross Feathers who maintain a 2 point lead at the top of the division. Tom Lowe & Lynn Hosegood came close to winning more games in setting, but in the end it was 4 points in the bag for the visitors with Ste Andrews, Hayley Harrison & Rach Graham all winning their 6 games to help keep hopes up of bringing silverware home.

St. Andrews A beat Hawks B, 16-2 to be in joint 2nd place & leave the visitors in very murky relegation waters; 10 points clear of safety. Steve Taylor, Nicki McGrath & Lizzie Holt all won their 6 & next week they host Cross Feathers… Interesting!!

In division 2, Clitheroe A remained firmly at the top of the table this week with a 17-1 drumming of bottom team, Hawks D. Jinesh Mistry & Emily Cholmondley won the 1 game for Hawks to stop the total whitewash as Keith Ashton was stat the best

The hillbilly’s hosted their relegation rivals, Carlton B at the fort this week and got off to a storming start; a massive 7-1 lead after the levels. Carlton produced a mini comeback in the mixed, but it really was a bridge too far for them as the final score ran out at 13-5 with a massive 4 points in the bag to leapfrog Garstang over them & producing a gap of 2 points with a game in hand. Jen Tsang was the star on the evening, she won her 6 at 3rd Ladies to earn the LOTM & help the team earn 4 pts.

MGS D had a tough match against St. Andy’s B this week & the visitors were 3-5 up after the levels. Andy’s then won 3 mixed on the bounce & MGS followed suit also winning 3 to make the score 6-8. In the 8th set Andy Fowler & Carolyn Hustler won the 2 games required for the win to help take 3 points in the 8-10 final score for Andy’s. Carolyn once again earned the LOTM award for taking all of her 6 games & help her team still challenge for the silverware in 3rd place.

Evergreens A lost 4-14 to Crusaders A who stay in 2nd position just a point behind the leaders, Clitheroe A & still have a match in hand over them. The MOTM was Neil Addison Jones who won all his 6 games to take home the award & 4 points!

In division 3, MGS E wiped the floor with Crusaders D; they thrashed the 3rd placed team 17-1 to maintain a solid 2nd place & put a 6 point clear gap between themselves & their opponents. Kathy Yeung & Nat Kane stopped the total whitewash.

Hawks E sprung into joint 4th place with a 13-5 max point victory over bottom team Penwortham A. Graham & Anne Robinson won all their 6 games to be the best pair, with a game conceded, but they probably would have won it anyway!

Springfields A took 4 easy points off Clitheroe B who get fined £10 and a 1 point deduction as per rule 26 (d).

Crusaders B beat Evergreens B, 16-2 to extend their lead at the top of the table by a massive 9 points. Ren Soni, Azam Sharif & Rachel Sides all won 6 games each to help win their team the max 4 points & remain the only unbeaten team in the div.

In 4, Flight managed to beat Springfields B 16-2 to shoot up the table with the 4 point win as David Bradley and Alex Pimperton won all of their 6 games to be the best players on the evening.

Penwortham B lost 4-14 at home to the hands of Whittle A who with the 4 points go into 4th place on the tables. Jackie Harnby was once again the star for Whittle, she won all of her 6 games at No 3 Ladies to take home the LOTM award. However, the road ahead for Penwortham looks very long & hard with a real chance of going down, being 8 pts from safety!

Crusaders E beat their promotion rivals, Project 12 this week, 14-4. Clayton were a massive 7-1 up after the levels and went through the winning tape in the 1st mixed sets before the visitors got a couple of ‘compensation’ games! Leanne  Amphlett  & Jason Lydon from Mythop then took a pair in the 7th to go 8-6 up & a split set in the 8th made the score 9-7. Keith Turner & Elizabeth Davis wrapped up the proceedings with a pair in the final set to win the match 11-7 & notch up the visitors 1st loss. Leanne also won all of her 6 games to be the LOTM on the evening & help open a 3 point gap between the 2 sides, but Garstang have a match in hand!
