Report From Paul Eastham:
In division 1 this week David Lloyd thrashed MGS C 18-0 to keep their clean sheet rolling and stay on track for silverware.
Hawks B got a right old drumming off Cross Feathers. The score line was 0-18 as Fay Andrews was statistically best on the night to keep the team in 2nd and for their great run of matches, ive decided to give them a week off to have a rest!
MGS B got beat 2-16 by their own A team as Jared Matthew, Becky Ashton & Rachael Hewitt all won 6 to help the team keep 4th spot on the tables. However, it’s worth mentioning that 1 of the B team Ladies pulled out at the last minute & after a quick phone call, Cheryl Parry put her glass of wine down & sped over to Wellfield to help the B team out. Great stuff!!
St. Andrews A beat Carlton A 16-2 to remain at the top of the table, but I fear that will probably be their last week enjoying the glory days of the past, as next week they face the current Champions, David Lloyd…. But you just never know!!!
In 2, Carlton B got beat 3-15 at home by Hawks C; Debbie Taylor & Irv Grimbaldeston got all their 6 games to be the best.
Clitheroe A thrashed the hillbilly’s 17-1 to move into joint 2nd place on the tables. Amit Mistry & Serena Hindle won the only game for Garstang, 16-17 to stop the total whitewash; Alison Leaver was statistically best on the evening for the hosts.
Hawks D got mauled at home this week by St. Andrews B and in the 0-18 win for the visiting team, it was Andy Fowler who was “just” statistically best on the night, but all the team chipped in to go “temporarily” top of the table! ????
MGS D started to climb up the tables this week with a 4 point win over Evergreens A. Laurence Smith & Joy Moon were the best pair on the evening in this tie, they won all their 6 in the No 2 slot on the card. They face Hawks C next week…Hmmm!!
In division 3, St. Andrews C got beat at home by leaders Clayton Crusaders B. In the 1-17 victory I am very pleased to announce that after such a long time, it was statistically Chris Kelly who was the best player on the evening and it was Darren Robinson & Zoe Watts who won the 1 game to stop the total whitewash in the 8th set. Well done Chris! ????
Springfields A got beat 8-10 this week in clash against 2nd placed team, MGS E. The hosts got off to a cracking start, winning 5 of the 8 level games on offer. A split in the 5th and a pair for Springs meant the score had risen up to 8-4; but an injection of adrenaline spurred the visitors on and they won the final 6 games in a row including an 8 all classic to snatch the match from under the noses from the very experienced hosts. Richard Everett & Jacqui Gibson won the final set 14-17 & 12-15 to help snatch the pts from a bewildered Springfields team. Richard was awarded the MOTM for his 6 & cracking performance!
Evergreens B won their 1st match of the season 12-6 when they hosted rivals, Hawks E. Colin Campbell won all of his 6 games in the No 3 men’s spot to assist the team getting off the starting blocks early & was awarded the MOTM award for his great effort. The result leaves 3 teams tied at the foot of the table, Penwortham, Evergreens & Hawks, all on 4 points!
In 4, Springfields B lost 4-14 this week to visiting team, Whittle A. In the maximum 4 point win which pulled the visitors out of the relegation zone, it was Tony Melling who stared on the evening, winning all his 6 games to earn the MOTM award.
Flight couldn’t manage to rustle up another team this week & conceded to Crusaders E. a point deduction & a fine follows!
Penwortham B got beat 8-10 in a close match at home by Evergreens C. The visitors were 3-5 up after the levels before Penwortham squared the match in the opening mixed; but Evergreens opened the throttle and took the next 6 games to go through the winning post, taking the 3 points and going into 3rd spot on the tables as Steve Dudley was the MOTM for his 6.
Whittle B took on runaway leaders, MGS F at home this week and what a tight match it turned out to be. Two split sets & each team getting a pair in the levels set the mood for how things were gonna pan out. The mixed started with 2 split sets before Rees Parry & Lorna Hopper from MGS won both games in the 7th set, 15-17 & 7-15 to make the score 6-8. The 8th set games were both won by Gary Richardson & Karen Butler to set up an 8 all nail-biting classic in which Rees & Lorna won both games 14-17 & 8-15 to help win the match 8-10 for the visitors. Rees was also awarded the MOTM on the night for taking all his 6 games & helping the team stay way out in front; a massive 10 point lead over their nearest rivals, Clayton E.
In division 5, Clayton Crusaders F got off to a great start in their home tie against St. Andrews D; they were up 5-3 after the levels and 3 of those games were won to setting! But in the mixed, the visitors went into overdrive and only lost 1 game to finish the match at 6-12. Jane Godsland was the best player on the night, she took 5 of her 6 games.
Preston College A had a fight on their hands this week when they hosted the current division leaders, Mythop. In the levels, the hosts won all the Ladies & Mythop won the Men’s to go into the mixed all even. College drew first blood in the opening mixed with the help of Mick & Hazel Bradshaw and then the visitors struck back in the 6th set as Jason Lyndon & Linda Bennett won a pair. The 7th set was split as Mark Green & Ngan Pilkington won both games in the 8th to help the team go 7-9 up. In the final set it was up to Mick & Hazel to win both games to snatch a draw and the Stalwarts didn’t mess around; they took both games 15-5 & 15-6 to help share the points on the evening. Two awards in this tie for me, Hazel was LOTM & Jason MOTM, as they both won all their 6 games to help their respective teams earn 2 pts on the night. Great match folks!
Garstang B gained ground on the leaders, Mythop by securing all 4 points in a 15-3 home win over Preston College B. Ben Brooks won all of his 6 games to be the MOTM on the evening in the No 1 slot & help the team narrow the gap to 5 points.
