Mid Lancs Week D

Report from Paul Eastham

In Division 1, MGS A took no pity on bottom team Hawks B, they thrashed them 18-0 to go mid table. Statistically it was Pete Fearns who was the best player on the night, although I would like to mention that Rachael Hewitt also won 6 games in only her 2nd match of the season after a 5 year absence & I want to congratulate her on her return to Mid Lancs League.
David Lloyd v MGS B. No card as yet and the home team are fined £10 as per rule 25.
Hawks A got beat 3-15 by St. Andrews A who move into 2nd spot on the tables; Steve Taylor & Nicki McGrath won all their 6.
Cross Feathers remained top when they beat late arrivals Carlton 17-1 & after the warm up games, it’s the biggy next week.

In division 2, St. Andrews B beat the hillbilly’s 13-5 to send the visitors back up the M6 with Nul Point! Karolyn Hustler & Andy Fowler were the best pair on the evening and they helped keep Andy’s firmly in 2nd position on the tables.
Hawks C fell 6-12 at home to visiting team, Clitheroe A. The best players were Alison Leaver & Jess Portas, they both won all of their 6 to help in the 3 point win; but the most aggrieved player must have been Matt Timms, he won all the 6 for Hawks!
Leaders, Clayton Crusaders A beat MGS D 12-6 to remain firmly in charge of the division, but they didn’t have it all their own way as the visitors took the bonus point; the 1st pt they have lost this season. Neil Addison Jones won 5 games to be best.
Evergreens A beat bottom team Hawks D 13-5 to take the max 4 points and move into 3rd place on the tables.

Clitheroe B took on the leaders of division 3 this week, Crusaders B & after the levels, the hosts were on the ropes being 2-6 down. A mini fight back started in the mixed, but Clayton won 5 in a row to go through the winning post before the last set kicked off. Final score, 7-11 and Ren Soni picked up 5 for the visitors & Richard Knighton took 5 of the 7 won for Clitheroe.
Hawks E won 12-6 at home to St. Andrews C as Graham Robinson picked up the MOTM award for taking all of his 6 games in his 1st match since having keyhole surgery in his shoulder. I always like feedback, so it’s worth mentioning that Gill Gornall from Andy’s played really well on the night (4 games) & had a lovely attitude!… well done Gill & Graham!!!….. Thanks Anne!
Penwortham A looking for their 1st win of the season took on bottom team Evergreens B who also haven’t won a match yet, so something had to crack! The hosts got off to a good start, going 6-2 into the mixed; then Evergreens fought back winning 5 games out of the next 4 sets, but in the final set Alan McLaughlin & Linda Bretherton sealed the much sought after 1st win of the 11-7 to lift Penwortham off the foot. Glen Harrison & Caroline Coxen won 5 each to be the best pair at No 2.
Clayton Crusaders D beat a strong Springfields B side 14-4 to take 4 max points and surge up the table in their 2nd win of the season. The best player on the evening was Cameron Higgins; he won all his 6 to take home the MOTM award.

In 4, MGS F built on their successful season so far with a 15-3 home win over 3rd place team, Project 12.
Whittle B moved into joint 2nd place on the tables with a 13-5 max point win over Penwortham B. Rory Parkinson & Rachael Moon tried in vain in the final set to steal the bonus point, winning the 1st game 12-15 but lost the very last game of the match 15-13 to Gary Richardson & Karen Butler. Ant Hoghton was the MOTM on the evening for winning all of his 6 games.
Evergreens C had an ever so tight match at home to Springfields B. At 5-3 up after the levels, the visitors struck immediately back in the 1st mixed by taking a pair & this was followed by a split mixed in the 6th to keep the scores even at 6 all. The decisive set was 7; Steve Dudley & Corinne Wagstaff won a pair to go 8-6 up and then the next 2 sets were split as Chris Chatwood & Marian Johannesen won the final game of the match to seal the 10-8 win. Steve won 5 to be the best player.
Whittle A had a nail bitter at home to Crusaders E this week and after the levels, it was all square. Crusaders drew first blood in the opening mixed by winning a pair and then a split set followed before Whittle hit back in the 7th by taking a pair to even the match once again. at 7 all. Richard Langford & Esther Worthington from Clayton won the 2 games in set 8, a nail biting 13-15 & 14-17 to go 7-9 up in the match. It was then up to Peter Nelson & Val Marsden to go on court & win both over Carl Charlesworth & Dawn Harrison in the final set to force a draw on the evening. Carl & Dawn won the 1st game 8-15 to take the points home before Peter & Val picked up the consolation final game 15-13 to end the match 8-10. Richard & Esther won 5 games each to be the best pair on the night as did Jackie Harnby from Whittle in the No 3 Ladies spot.

In division 5, Preston College B won their 1st match of the season when they faced Brindle at home. In the 12-6 win, Dave Dunk & Jan Harrison won 5 on the night to be the best pair, but it was Nick Fish & Linda Kozera who robbed the bonus point in the very last set to deny the home side from getting all 4 points and also stopped Dave & Jan from 6 max games.
