This week in Division 1, David Lloyd took Hawks B to the cleaners by beating them 17-1, only Andy Owen & Chris Chu stopping the total whitewash by winning the 1 men’s game. Joanna Holt was statistically the best player on the evening.
Finally!………… Clayton Crusaders A get their 1st division 1 point when they played at MGS B. At the end of the levels, things for Crusaders looked very promising as the match hung in the balance at 4 all & a split mixed opener made it 5 all, but then a flurry of games gave the hosts the points, but only 3 as another split set gave Clayton the bonus point. Andy Finch was once again the star on the evening, he took all of his 6 games to take home the MOTM award in the 12-6 win.
In Division 2, Carlton B managed to grab the vital bonus point in the final set due to Dave Broadbent & Andrea Phillips winning them 15-11 & 15-10 when they played St. Andrews B at home. The hosts were on the ropes from the start of this match, being 1-7 down going into the mixed, with the final match score being 7-11; Fergus Munroe won 5 to be the best player on the night.
Clitheroe A fell 8-10 to MGS C as Rob Oakes & Danya Lewis won the final pair of games in an 8 all thriller 7-15 & 10-15. The hosts were 5-3 up after the levels but in the 1st mixed MGS took the pair to square the match at 5 all; this was then followed by 3 split sets to leave an 8 all classic finale. Rob Metcalf was the star in this match, he won 5 to assist in MGS’s 3pt win.
Hawks C won12-6 at home to MGS E who grabbed the bonus point in the 8th set. Nathan Brown won 6 to be MOTM.
MGS D lost 5-13 at home to leaders, Springfields A & Denzil Wates & Alison P Truman won all of their 6 to the best pair.
Will Booth & Charlotte Gregory from Clayton Crusaders B won an 8 all Classic in the final set 15-3 & 15-13 to win the overall match 10-8 against the Hillbilly’s. The home side were 5-3 up after the levels with Garstang taking a pair in the opening mixed set to square the match. In the 6th set it swung back Clayton’s way with both games being won; but in the 7th the visitors squared it again & that was then followed by a split set in the 8th. The team still remain in the drop zone, but the 3 valuable points will help the team stay in touch of the red line on the tables & 4 behind their opponents with a game in hand. Adam Sharif won 5 to be the best player on the night.
In Division 3, Crusaders C whitewashed MGS F 18-0 to remain in a strong 2nd position on the tables; Tom Reid was stat the best.
Hawks E also got beat 0-18 at home to the leaders, Evergreens A as Darren Clayton was stat the best & stay 3 pts clear.
Evergreens B lost 6-12 to a 5 sided Clitheroe B as Stuart Davey, Jane Mackey & Pete Wright all picked up 6 games to be 3rd.
Springfields B failed to get any points at home when they hosted Hawks D. In the 5-13 win for the visitors, it was Beth Cowell who proudly went back home with the LOTM award for taking all of her 6 games & help lift the team into 4th.
In division 4, Project 12 beat a 5 sided Flight, 12-6 & it was Gordon Pimperton & Karen Farnhill who won the final pair of games in set 9 to steal the bonus point from the hosts; Gordon won 4 to be the best player on the evening.
Clayton E won 15-3 at home to Preston College B & it was Rachelle Haynes & Jemima Cheetham who stole the show; they picked up all of their 6 games to be the best players on the evening to help the team stay 9 points clear at the top
St. Andrews C won 15-3 at home to Whittle B to stay in 2nd place on the tables as Darren Robinson & Lisa Harrison won 6.
Whittle A lost 6-12 at home to Spring C this week as Maureen Turner took 5 games on the evening for the visitors.
In division 5, Les Halton & Linda Kozera saved the day for Brindle when they won the final pair of games in set 9 15-4 & 15-6 to draw the match when the team hosted St. Andrews D. At the end of the levels the score was tied at 4 all when Brindle won all the Men’s & Andy’s won all the Ladies. A pair for Les & Linda in the opening mixed was followed by a split in the 6th & then Andy’s took a 7-9 lead by winning the next 4 games in set 7 & 8. Les was also the MOTM on the night for taking his 6.
Clayton F lost 7-11 at home this week to Whittle C with Ant Houghton, Olivier Brown & Jane Brown winning 5 games each in the win to be the best players on the evening and are now in 4th spot on the tables.
Whittle D fell 3-15 at home to Mythop who leap into 3rd place on the tables as Julie Bennett won all her 6 to be LOTM.
