Report From Paul Eastham:
This weeks report comes from the sunny resort of the Costa Del Sol 😎
In division 1, MGS A, had a tight home match with Cross Feathers and they eventually needed both games in the final set to pull off a draw. It was all square after the levels, but 4 games in a row in the mixed for the visitors put MGS on the ropes. They then won both in the 7th before a split set in the 8th to make the match score 7-9 & put the pressure on Jared Matthew & Jen Rigby to win both in the final set to draw the match. They did indeed win the opener in that set, 15-8, but Ste Andrews & Hayley Harrison won the final game 12-15 to win the match for Cross Feathers. RÄCH Graham won 5 games. Hawks B got beat 3-15 at home by Carlton A as J Bowker, A Neville & K Armer all won their 6 games in the ax point win. St. Andrews A came so close to snatching a point off the current Champions, David Lloyd. After the levels, the score was all square with the hosts taking all of the Ladies & the visitors winning all 4 Men’s. In the mixed, the champs just surged ahead, only letting Andy’s win one more game. Roger Leigh & Katie McWalters came ever so close in the 8th set (16-17) from taking the 1st point off the unbeatable side this season. I always like a little feedback on matches to get a true feeling of how a match has panned out, and this week, Steve Taylor attached these words to the match card. “Apart from the mens it was a closer game than it appears. We let the girls down really. Lizzie and nicki beat an apparently unbeaten pair to 3 in the second end. Great performance. Mixed could have either way really but their men play a lot and it shows in the fact they don’t make unforced errors. We more than held our own and won a lot of the rallies so did the hard bit, but then gave the advantage away immediately with silly errors so never really gained momentum.Their consistency is brilliant and they thoroughly deserve the win. An example of why practice makes perfect. Must try harder haha” Darren Whitley was MOTM.
In 2, Clitheroe A won 11-7 at home this week when they hosted Crusaders B and Alison Leaver won 5 to be the best player. MGS E fell 4-14 to visitors St. Andrews B; Sarah Gradwell was the LOTM on the evening for being the only one to win 6. The Hillbilly’s gained a vital point at the Fort this week when they hosted MGS C. It was nice to see one of my old muckers back on court this week, as Dave (creeky) Creelman came back into Mid Lancs League. He managed to win 1 game in the 7-11 loss, as Rob Metcalf took home the MOTM award for winning all of his 6 games. MGS D had a 4 point max win over Carlton B. In the 14-4 win, Jason, Christina, Ric & Hannah all won 5 games each. Springfields A remain clear leaders again this week with a max 4 point win over Hawks C. In the 13-5 win, it was Alison Parkinson- Truman who won all of her 6 games to take home the LOTM award & help the team stay 3 pts above the pack.
In div 3, Clayton C had a fine 15-3 win over Springfields B; Sam Gorrell & Katy Dutton won all of their 6 to be the best pair. Penwortham A won 12-6 at home to Evergreens B. Lee Wigham & Karen Kenyon managed to grab a game in the final set to take the bonus point home for Evergreens. Caroline Coxon & Laura Heaton won 5 games each to assist in taking the 3 pts. Evergreens A remain in the top spot this week with a 16-2 drumming of Clitheroe B; Derek, Simone, Darren & lynette won 6.
In division 4, Preston College B lost 6-12 at home to Whittle B; Carol Heaton was the LOTM for winning her 6 games. Springfields C had a maximum 4 point win over Preston College A. In the 13-5 victory, Steve Hudson was the MOTM for his 6 Cameron Higgins & Ali Peacock won the last pair of games in the final set for Crusaders E to snatch the 3 points from under the noses of host’s St. Andrews C. In the 8 all classic, they won those last games, a nail- biting, 14-17 & 7-15, but it was Dylan Butcher who starred in this match; he won all of his 6 games to be the MOTM on the evening. Gary Richardson & Carol Heaton from Whittle A won the final pair of games of the match, 15-11 & 15-6 to help take 3 points off their visitors, Project 12. Nevertheless, Jackie Harnby was the true star of the match; she won her 6 @ 3rd the be LOTM.
In 5, Crusaders F got beat 5-13 at home to Penwortham B as Louisa Maloney picked up the LOTM for winning her 6 games. A five sided Whittle D lost 7-11 at home to Brindle. Simon Wynn won 4 games for the hosts to assist in still salvaging a point. Steve Dudley & Marian Johannesen from Evergreens C won the final pair of games in the final set to ensure they gained the max points when they hosted St. Andrews D. In the 13-5 win, Steve also won the MOTM award for taking all of his 6.
