Mid Lancs Week C

Report From Paul Eastham

Hawks A in division 1 lost this week when they hosted St. Andrews A & in the 5-13 defeat it was Karolyn Hustler who won 6.
The usual relegation teams, MGS B & Hawks B had an early clash this season at Wellfield and in the 16-2 win it was Lynn Hosegood who was statistically the best player on the evening to pick up the LOTM award to help the team go into 3rd spot. Clayton A felt the full wrath of MGS A this week in the visitors 1st match of the season. Tim Vickers & Julie Bates won all of their 6 to be the best pair on the night at 3rd and just a bit more of a push by Crusaders in a couple of games could have given them their 1st division 1 point. Sam Moss & Ciara Pender picked up 3, but I suspect 2 of them were ‘given’ to them! Cross Feathers went joint top of the table with a fine 13-5 win over Carlton A. In the max point win, Mike Johnston took home the MOTM award for taking all of his 6 games & for assisting in taking the 4 points in a match that ran out of time due to the visitors turning up late!

In 2, Carlton B lost 6-12 at home to Crusaders B. The home side were lucky to pick up the bonus point as a strong Clayton team romped through the finishing line in their 1st win of the season; Daniel Chorab went home with the MOTM award for his 6 games. A welcome return to the court for Louisa Haberstroh, winning 3 & her partner, Chris Kelly was 400% better than last week. This week’s quack quack award goes to Mark Bradshaw, he gracefully took the award off Chris!
Hawks C went sole leaders of the division with a 11-7 win over Clitheroe A. The match was all square after the levels followed by a split 1st mixed set in the 5th. Then Hawks put the foot down in the remaining sets to romp through the winning post & eventually take the match 11-7. Graham Robinson won all of his 6 to be the MOTM on the night. MGS D hosted the Hillbilly’s this week and after the levels, the home side were breezing at 7-1 up, but a comeback by the visitors shook MGS, but in the end it was all in vain, as they held out for an 11-7 victory. Spring A took 4 home points when they thrashed MGS E 17-1, only Matt Seddon & Janet Rance stopped the complete whitewash by winning the 1 games, 14-17. Denzil Wates was statistically the best player on the night to put the team 2nd.

In 3, Clitheroe B beat MGS F 15-3 to keep in the runners up spot as Chris Smitton took all her 6 to be LOTM on the night. Hawks E got beat 4-14 at home by Crusaders C as Tom Reid & his partner Rachael Sides won all of their 6 games on the night. Clayton D got thrashed 1-17 at home by top of the table side, Evergreens A. Just Luke Brown & Nat Kane stopping the complete whitewash as Emily Milner was statistically the best player on the evening & help the team stay out in front.

In division 4, Preston College A lost 7-11 to St. Andrews C this week and it was Colin Marney who proudly took home the MOTM award for winning all of his 6 games on the night. Hazel Bradshaw won 5 of the 7 games for College. Project 12 fell 7-11 to Clayton Crusaders E and that was mainly thanks to Cameron Higgins & Jemima Cheetham who won 5 each to help keep their team in the top spot over their closest rivals. Whittle A beat Preston College B 14-4, but the score does not do the match any justice as 5 games went to setting and the visitors lost 4 of them! Also 3 games were a score of 13, so the score could have been much different if they had gone the other way. Martin Charnock & Karen Butler were the best pair on the evening, they won all their 6 at No3 slot.

In division 5, Brindle lost 7-11 at home to Penwortham B as Paul Turner & Ann Marsh won the final pair of games in the final set to seal the win. Ann also picked up the LOTM award for winning all her 6 games. Nick Fish won 6 of the 7 won for Brindle
Mythop gained their 1st win of the season with an 11-7 win over Evergreens C as Elizabeth Turner, Mark green & Julie Bennett won 5 games each to be the best players on the evening.
St. Andrews D won an 8 all classic to pick up their 1st win of the season. Jack Ashcroft & Emma Hindley won those final games 15-11 & 15-5 to seal the 3 points as Jane Godsland picked up the LOTM award for taking all 6 at 3rd Ladies.
