Report by Paul Eastham:
In div 1, Hawks B got beat 3-15 by St. Andrews A who go into 2nd spot as Steve Taylor & Nicki McGrath won 6 games each.
Springfields A got beat 1-17 at home by Carlton A who take home the 4 pts to move away from the drop zone & leave a familiar bunch of teams below them that usually end up scrapping it out at the end of the season!
Cross Feathers lost 5-13 at home to David Lloyd and the home side could have snatched a vital bonus point only for them playing an ineligible player! Clarky & Mark Tuttle won all of their 6 games to be the best players on the evening.
In 2, Hawks D got beat 6-12 to stay rooted in the danger zone as Carlton moved into a very healthy 5th place. Springfields B’s death toll has started to ring yet again, as they fell 2-16 at home to the leaders, Hawks C. The leaders took no mercy on the bottom club as points are vital to them in the chase for silverware; All 3 men Sam, Rob & Dan won 6 each. Clitheroe A got beat 4-14 at home by 3rd place Crusaders A who remain in a very strong position to earn a promotion slot. With games in hand over the 2 teams above them, they still remain a viable threat to snatch the silverware from their rivals above them & their next critical match is the ‘6 pointer’ against the top of the division, Hawks C. Ciara Pender was LOTM. MGS C stay in 2nd place with a cracking 16-2 win over the Hillbilly’s & remain very good contenders to earn a promotion spot as yet again, Andy Finch & Lynn Hosegood won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the night. The race for the title will not be over until the very last week in this division, as all the 4 top teams have to play the other around them and as the old saying goes… ‘It’s not over until the fat lady sings!’ and I assure you…. it won’t!!! St. Andrews B beat MGS D 15-3 to keep in a solid 4th as Dave Savage & Graham Hollingsworth won all their 6 to be best.
In division 3, leaders MGS E beat Springfields C 11-7 to still keep out in front at the top; Matt Seddon & Trevor Brown won 5. Hawks F got beat 3-15 by St. Andrews C who bag all 4 pts in their quest for the division’s silverware. Crusaders B keep in 3rd place with a 15-3 win over Hawks E as Sam Gorrell, Charlotte Gregory & Luke Brown all won 6.
In division 4, Preston College B bounced back from last week’s crushing 0-18 defeat to win 11-7 at home over Springfields D. The 3 points help them boost their total within the drop zone, but still have some work & praying to do if they want to avoid the drop back into 5. Azam Sharif was the best player on the night; he won 5 games @ 3rd Men’s. St. Andrews D lost at home this week to the runaway leaders of the division, Evergreens B. They now are 5 points out in front, still with a match in hand over joint 2nd place MGS F; Ed Gilbertson was the MOTM on the night for his 6 games. MGS F moved into joint2nd place with a 16-2 victory over Preston College A & upped the threat level to snatch promotion. Penwortham B were beaten 4-14 by Whittle A as Gary Richardson & Rachelle Haynes won 6 games each to be the best pair. Whittle B got off to a poor start when they hosted Crusaders C. At 0-8 down after the levels the match was almost lost but in the mixed Whittle fought back, splitting 4 of the 5 sets & winning both games in the other to snatch the bonus point in the very last game of the match. Whittles’ Captain, peter Nelson praised their opponents for their well-earned victory that puts the team in joint 2nd with MGS. Luke Brown & Natalie Kane both won 5 games each to be the best pair on the night.
In 5, Garstang B won 13-5 against Clayton E as Helen Jones won all of her 6 games to be the LOTM on the night. Clayton Crusaders D fell 7-11 at home this week to Whittle D which dinted their promotion hopes. Karen Butler was the LOTM on the evening to help take 3 pts back home to Whittle & left Crusaders to lick their wounds and regroup again for their upcoming matches crucial matches which will decide their fate… starting with 3rd place Brindle next time! Evergreens C won a very tight match 10-8 when they hosted Mythop. At 3-5 down after the levels, the home side fought back hard in the mixed, splitting the opener and then winning 6 games in a row to go over the winning line. Margaret Whitham & James Vinden won 5 games each to be the best pair on the evening. St. Andrews E lost 4-14 at home to the leaders, Project 12 who have now guaranteed themselves a promotion slot on their very 1st season within our league. J. Jackson, S. Coultas and R. Monks all won 6 games each on the evening to be best. Whittle C beat Brindle to stay in the runners up spot and open up a 4 point gap between themselves & their opponents but with 2 crucial matches in the next week of fixtures between Whittle C v Project 12 and Brindle v Crusaders D then it really is gonna be a vital week that may decide the way the division pans out… but then again, it may just make things even tighter!
