In division 1 this week, MGS A’s points tally continued when they beat Carlton A 11-7. Ashley Gibson won the MOTM award for taking his 6 games on the night and Carlton got another point to continue their climb away from the drop zone. Hawks A remained in 3rd place despite getting a rite battering off leaders, David Lloyd. Darren Whitley was stat the best. MGS B got off to a terrible start in their match when they hosted Hawks B, winning the opening game in setting & then losing the next 7 to be 1-7 down after the levels. The mixed bore more fruits, but time & sets ran out as the final score ended up 7-11 for the visitors. Andy Owen & Emily Miller won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the night.
In division 2, Hawks C had a crunch match with Clayton Crusaders A to decide who would hold 3rd place at the end of the match. The usual story unfolded in this clash, were the match was tied at 4 all after the levels. In the mixed, Clayton took the early lead in set 5 followed by 2 splits and then Clayton went over the finishing line in set 8 before Hawks got the last 2 games in set 9 to end up with a final score of 8-10. Despite being injured in her 2nd game Jacqui Atherton carried on for Hawks, adding 2 valuable games, but the overall LOTM was Ciara Pender won all of her 6 to thrust Clayton above Hawks. Springfields B started to slip into familiar territory with a 3-15 defeat at home to Carlton B, who a couple of week ago were in the dreaded drop zone. Dave Boon & Jo Richardson won all of their 6 games & help sink their opponents onto the brink of the red line. Next week, it’s the Hillbilly’s in the annual 6 pointer between the 2 teams which normally decides who drops!
Damian Cooke & Alison Leaver from Clitheroe A won the final pair of games 15-12 & 15-13 to pick up a vital bonus point when they hosted leaders, MGS C. The 6-12 result claws Clitheroe away from the drop zone and keeps MGS in the top spot by a single point over Andy’s. Alison was also the LOTM on the night… for winning all of the 6 games that Clitheroe earned! MGS D maintained a heathy mid table position with a 12-6 win over Hawks D, who picked up their 1st point of the season by snatching the bonus in the final set. Christina Atkinson won 5 games to be the best player on the night.
St. Andrews B took advantage of the Hawks/Crusaders match when they battered the Hillbilly’s 17-1, only Stuart Smerdon & Amit Mistry winning the 1 game to stop the complete whitewash. The 4 point max win takes Andy’s into 2nd spot.
In 3, MGS E maintained pole position with a 14-4 victory over Clitheroe B as Matt Seddon and Trevor Brown won their 6 games to ensure all 4 points were taken on the night. Roy Atherton & Marian Bamber from Hawks E won the required game in set 9 to produce a 10-8 home win over Penwortham A. Jean Egan & Paul Webber won 5 games each to help snatch the 3 points for Hawks. Springfields C thrust themselves up the table with a 13-5 max point win over bottom team, Hawks F. At 6-2 up after the levels the home side looked on course for a win and continued to build upon that score in the mixed until eventually going through the winning post in set 8. Jane Green won all her 6 games to be the LOTM for winning all her 6 games.
In div 4, Preston College B fell at home 6-12 to MGS F. At the end of the levels things were looking rosy for the home team as the score were tied, but in the mixed MGS stormed ahead winning 8 of the 10 games on offer. Jenny Stothard won 6. Penwortham B lost at home this week when they hosted Clayton Crusaders C. Penwortham managed to scrape the bonus point in set 8, but it was Clayton who took the 3 points home in the 6-12 win; Richard Langford was the MOTM for his 6. Daren Clayton & Susan Bullen from Evergreens B won the final pair of games in set 9 to win the match when they hosted Whittle B. After the levels the match was all square and then Evergreens won the opening 4 games in the mixed to take an 8-4 lead before Whittle struck back in the next 2 sets, taking all of the 4 games to square the fixture to force the 8 all classic. In the 10-8 win, it was Daren who won all of his 6 games to take home the elite MOTM award & help keep the team top. Whittle A took all 4 points off visitors, Springfields D. In the 13-5 victory it was the usual suspects, Andrew & Maxine Garland and Rachelle Haynes who won all of the 6 games to help sink their opponents & bag all 4 points.
In division 5, Project 12 beat Whittle C, 15-3 to keep joint top of the shop as Paul Whitehouse & M Pickles won all their 6. Whittle D beat Clayton Crusaders E 17-1 to maintain 4th spot; Mike Duggleby was statistically the best player. Clayton Crusaders D brought Brindle’s run of wins to a halt with a 15-3 home win over them. The max point win keeps them in joint pole position with Project 12 as Cameron Higgins & partner Kathy Yeung won all of their 6 games to be the best pair on the evening. With both leaders yet to lose a match in this division, the tie in 2 weeks’ time will be mouth-watering! St. Andrews E lost 4-14 at home to Mythop.
