Mid Lancs Week C

Report by Paul Eastham

In division 1 this week, Carlton A lost to top of the table team, St. Andrews A. In the 16-2 win, Steve Pallett was statistically the best player on the evening & I predict more destruction next week when they travel to Springfields!  😥 Getting the 2 ‘big guns’ out of the way, MGS A got back on track with their 1st win of the season at home to Hawks B. The 17-1 win saw Pete Fearns as statistically the best player on the night; next week they face Hawks A… mouth-watering!  Talking of mouth-watering fixtures, Hawks A took on the newbies in the division, Cross Feathers. The match started as I expected; all square after the levels, but the hosts took a very commanding lead in the mixed, only losing 1 game and therefore running out 13-5 winners. In the 4 point win, Nick Hodgson & Rick Wallbank won all of their 6 to keep then in 2nd. MGS B got their annual thrashing from current champs, David Lloyd. Jared Matthew & Tom Lowe won the single game!

In Division 2 the Hillbilly’s hosted Carlton B at the fort this week and what a corker of a match it was. At 5-3 up after the levels, 4 split mixed sets followed to make the score 9-7 going into the final set. Dave Boon stepped up with partner Joanne Richardson who won both games for Carlton 15-13 & 15-9 to earn the visitors a well-earned draw. Hawks C were in action against Clitheroe A & kept a firm stranglehold on the top spot in the division with a 15-3 victory. Sam Ames & Dan Porter were the duo who tore Clitheroe apart by winning all of their 6 games on the evening. Normal service resumed at Springfields B returned with a 3-15 defeat at the hands of MGS C; who maintain 2nd place on the table, mainly thanks to MOTM Andy Finch; he won all of his 6 games (just) to help keep the team with a clean sheet. Sam Moss was on fire this week for Clayton A when they played at MGS D; he won all of his 6 to be awarded the MOTM award. The 11-7 win takes Crusaders into 3rd spot on the tables…. and just for the record there was one person on the night that scored a duck…. Shall I name him?….. Go on then, Chris Kelly!  Pull ya socks up lad! (Quack-quack!)  🙂  St. Andrews B trashed Hawks D, 17-1 to stay in 3rd place on the table with a game in hand over the top 2 teams.

In 3, MGS E went on the rampage when they beat a 5 sided Hawks F, 16-2 at home. The result keeps them firmly in joint top place as Trevor Brown won all of his 6 (legal) games to be MOTM on the night. Hawks E moved into 2nd place when they beat Flight 11-7. Joanna Pallister won all of her 6 games for Hawks on the night, but the most aggrieved player must have been Ian Bythel; he got all his 6 games out of the 7 won for Flight! Sam Gorrell & Charlotte Gregory from Clayton Crusaders B won the final game 15-13 to snatch the bonus point in the 6-12 defeat by Evergreens A. Nic Isherwood took home the MOTM award in this tie for taking all his 6 games; whereas Clayton’s Captain, Tom Reid was having nightmare of a night- ‘Man flu + badminton = lost all of his games for the first time in 5 years’! Clitheroe B lost 5-13 to the hands of St. Andrews C; Fergus Munro & Lisa Harrison won all of her 6 to be the best pair.

In division 4, Preston College A lost 5-13 at home to Clayton Crusaders C who jump up the table after the 4 point max win. MOTM in this tie was Carl  Charlesworth; he won all of his 6 games to help Clayton take all of the points. St. Andrews D drew at home this week with Whittle B as Carol Heaton & Simon Hardacre won the last pair of games in set 9 to share the points. Lisa Harrison won 5 games for Andy’s, but the MOTM was Simon, not only did he win the final games to earn the draw, he won all of his 6 games to stop the defeat from Andrews taking place. Evergreens B maintained top spot with a convincing 14-4 win over Springfields D. Things were looking tight at the end of the levels as both teams stood all square, but Evergreens went into the mixed like a bull in a china shop and won all of the available 10 games on offer… final score, 14-4. This week it was Lee Wigham who took home the elite award of MOTM. Whittle A took all 4 points at home when they hosted Preston College B. Rachelle Haynes was the LOTM in the 13-5 win to help keep her team in joint 2nd position on the tables.

In division 5, Project 12 whitewashed Clayton Crusaders E, 18-0 to stay 2nd on the tables. Mythop had a nail-biter this week with Brindle as 4 games went to setting & the home side conceded 2 games due to injury. After the levels the match was all square, but 4 games on the trot for Brindle took the visitors onto the brink of victory, but Mythop fought back in the 7th set, winning both games before injury struck in 8th for Mythop which in turn gave the match to the visitors. Despite being on the losing team, Alison Kirkham won 6 to be LOTM as Pauline’s cakes went down a treat!  🙂  Whittle D beat Garstang B, 12-6 to keep in 3rd place as Mike Duggleby & Martin Charnock won all of their 6 games. Clayton Crusaders D beat Evergreens C, 15-3 to keep in pole position by a single point and maintain a full sweep of all points on offer from their 3 matches. Cameron Higgins & Natalie Kane won all their 6 games to be the best pair on the night. A five sided St. Andrews E lost at home this week to Whittle C as Jane Sharples won 5 legal games in the 4-14 win.
