Mid Lancs Week P

Report From Paul Eastham:

In division 1 this week, MGS A took all 4 points off Hawks B in a 17-1 win; Suanne Bly was statistically best on the evening. Hawks A beat Carlton A 14-4 to take all 4 points & take advantage of the DLA result. Anthony Pratt & Jenny Hewitt won all of their 6 games to be the best pair. Hawks host St. Andy’s in 2 weeks’ time… it just might be the runners up decider! MGS B took all 4 points off bottom team, St. Andrews B to help them in their relegation battle. They now sit 2 points clear of the dreaded red line as Claire Banfield & Lucy Hunt both chipped in with 5 games each to assist the team in the 13-5 win. St. Andrews A clashed with the leaders, David Lloyd A, but where demolished at home by 3 games to 15. Clarky & Mark Tuttle did their usual damage to sink Andy’s & retain the division 1 shield for the 3rd season on the trot. Congratulations to them & the result leaves their opponents now scrapping with Hawks A for the runners up spot in 2 weeks’ time! Last week, David Lloyd B beat St. Andrews B 15-3 to climb within 2 pts of safety… but have games in hand over their rivals.

In division 2, Hawks C & MGS C fought hard in a match that would potentially give the winning team the advantage in lifting the silverware for the division……. But on the night; nothing could separate them! Rob Courtley who won 5 games on the night & Maxine Watson took the final pair of games to ensure a hard earned draw for Hawks. Both teams sit in joint 2nd, 1 pt behind Carlton but both teams have a game in hand as they both travel to 2 teams next week who are in trouble at the foot. Spring B had a 6-12 home loss when they hosted Carlton B, but the vital bonus point was snatched in the final set by Chris Smerdon & Louisa Carlin to help give Springs in with a fighting chance of avoiding the drop. Dave Boon was MOTM for his 6. The Hillbilly’s pulled their joker card out this week when they travelled down the M6 to face MGS D at Wellfield. Not only did they win the match, they took max points in a 5-13 win that takes them out of the drop zone by 2 points. Stuart Smerdon & Sian Meekin won all their 6 to be the best pair on the night; but next week its 2nd place Hawks who are hungry! St. Andrews C were defeated 3-15 by Springfields A this week to lift the visitors within reaching distance of the top 3 promotion hunting teams. Jason Loffman & Mike Marwood won 6 games each to assist in the max point win.

In 3, Clitheroe gained promotion this week with a 15-3 win over relegation strugglers Flight; A. Leaver & L. Maskell won 6. 3rd placed MGS E pulled a rabbit out of the hat this week when they beat 2nd placed, Clayton Crusaders A. Mark Bradshaw was the star on the evening; he won all of his 6 games in the 12-6 win to take home the MOTM award. The win keeps MGS in 3rd, 3 points behind their opponents; however for Clayton it looks like the shield has slipped away! Hawks E clashed at home with fellow relegation rivals Battledore. The final result was 11-7 to allow Hawks leapfrog over their opponents by a single point & have a game in hand; Richard Llewellyn won all of his 6 to be MOTM. Evergreens had a mighty battle with St. Andrews D In another relegation clash Spring C hosted Penwortham A. Springs took all 4 points in a 15-3 victory to claw themselves 5 points clear of the red line; as for Penwortham, the curtains have started to shut on their division 3 experience!

In division 4, Hawks G who are in 4th took on 5th placed Springfields D, but there was no challenge as Hawks romped away with all 4 points in a 15-3 win to keep Hawks in a solid 4th place; Geoff Taylor & Graham Andrews won all of their 6 games. In a fight for survival, Penwortham B hosted Hawks F in a desperate challenge to take some points off the 2nd placed team, but despite a late rally, the visitors went back home with all 4 pts intact in a 5-13 victory & remain on course for runners up. Whittle A beat Preston College A to scramble away from the drop zone by 5 points.  In the 11-7 win, Tony Melling won 5 games to be the best player & only losing out in setting in the other game. Whittle B also had a great win over Evergreens B to massively ease their relegation worries. In the 13-5 victory, Simon Wynn was the star on the evening & took home the MOTM award for winning his 6 in the max point win.

In division 5, Preston College B took all 4 points when Crusaders E again conceded & are duly fined etc. Crusaders C drew 9 all with Brindle at home this week. The result ‘may’ have been slightly distorted as Michelle Wane retired due to her being ill & went home after her 1st game… Hope all is well. Richard Langford won his 6 to be MOTM. Crusaders D beat Whittle C, 10-8 in a great home win at Wellfield. Everything was to play for in the mixed as at the end of levels they were tied, but nothing could really separate them in the following games until the very last set, when Crusaders went over the finishing post. Despite being on the losing side, Denise Haydock won 5 to be the best on the evening. Evergreens C beat a 5 sided Whittle D, 11-7; the result leapfrogs them above their opponents in a mid-table clash. In a rearranged match last week, St. Andrews fell at home to Garstang B as Paul Whitehouse picked up all his 6 games to be the MOTM in the 7-11 score but a special mention must go to Jane Ryding; she won all her 6 for Andy’s out of the 7 won! This week, in a return match, Garstang B hosted St. Andrews E; the score was virtually the same as Garstang won 10-8 after an 8 all classic where Paul again won the final 2 games with Kat Platt & he won all his 6 games along with Rob Monks.
