MId Lancs Week O

Division 1 leaders, David Lloyd A won on home turf this week when they hosted Carlton A. In the 18-0 whitewash over their opponents, Mark Tuttle was statistically best on the evening to keep the runaway train rolling towards their 3rd title. Hawks A continued with this seasons form & beat David Lloyd B 12-6 at home to keep them in 2nd spot. Nick & Rachel Hodgson won 5 games each at 3rd pairing to do most of the damage; but a vital bonus point for DLB who are in the drop zone. MGS B were on the end of a 5-13 defeat by St. Andrews A; failing to grab a vital bonus point in the final game of the match. After being 13-6 up, Tom Lowe & Cheryl Parry lost the game 13-15 to Steve Taylor & Karolyn Hustler…. Tom told me “he was gutted”! Andy’s are steadily catching up to 2nd placed Hawks A; now just 2 points behind with 2 matches in hand. For MGS B, they are 2 pts ahead with 4 matches to play; 2 against the top two teams & 2 are against their relegation rivals! (St. B & DLB) St. Andrews B were beaten 1-17 at home by MGS A to leave them firmly rooted at the foot.

In division 2, Carlton B won their match 15-3 in a home win over Hawks D. The result once again takes them joint top of the table again as Iain Povall won his 6 games to take home the MOTM award. Hawks C took all 4 points off Springfields B in a 16-2 win to take them joint top. Graham Robinson & Rob Courtley both picked up 6 each to help assist in the max point win & keep them in the title race; However for Spring’s, the relegation fight goes on! In a close match MGS D won a crucial point in a 8-10 loss at home to St. Andrews C. Martin Hobin & Christina Cookson needed both games in the final set to earn a draw for MGS; they won the 1st game 15-9; but their opponents, John Parry & Laura Watts took the final game 15-3 to win the match for Andy’s.  The bonus point keeps MGS nine points above the danger zone & for Andy’s; the 3 point win secures their future in division 2. James Gregory won 5 to be the best on the evening. Springfields A beat last week’s sole top of the table leaders MGS C by 10 games to 8. The match was won in the 7th set to really open up the title race, as 3 teams now lie in joint top spot & MGS C travel to Hawks C in the next fixture week…WOW!

In 3, St. Andy’s D had an 11-7 home win over visitors, Battledore to leave their opponents dangling around the danger zone! Clitheroe now need one more win for automatic promotion when this week they beat promotion rivals, Evergreens A, 14-4. Alison Leaver was once again crowned LOTM after winning all of her 6 games for the 2nd week in a row. Hawks E beat Springfields C 12-6 this week to leave the visitors 1 point above the drop zone!  Dave Lees & Pauline Weafer won the bonus point for Springs in the final set to deny Hawks of the max points, but it was Beth Cowell who was the star on the evening; she won all of her 6 games to take home LOTM. Next time Springs host Penwortham A in a crucial match! A 5 sided Flight got thrashed 0-18 this week when they hosted MGS E & the result leaves them scrapping in the drop zone. Penwortham A got took to the cleaners in a 0-18 home whitewash by Crusaders A who took it out on them for last week’s defeat by Clitheroe. The result keeps them deeply rooted at the foot while Clayton still maintain 2nd place, 7 pts off Clitheroe.

 

In division 4, Preston College A were defeated 3-15 by promotion hunting Hawks F. The result keeps them in 2nd spot as Paul Webber & Jean Egan won all of their 6 to assist in the 4 point max win. MGS F kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a 12-6 win at Springfields D to be 6 points behind Hawks with 3 to play. Clayton Crusaders B beat Whittle A, 14-4 to claim automatic promotion into division 3 next season. Tom Reid won all of his 6 games to be the MOTM on the night & assist in the max point win. In Clayton’s next fixture, they can assist their closest rivals Hawks C in gaining promotion when they host 3rd place MGS F….. a win will sew the 2 promotions places up! Ed Gilbertson & Karen Kenyon from Evergreens B won the final pair of games 15-4 & 15-6 to earn a draw when they hosted Penwortham B. In a tight match where 5 sets were split, the 2 points helped both teams in the fight to avoid the drop. Karen & Ed also won 5 games each to be the best players on the evening & help Evergreens virtually guarantee division 4 status. Whittle B were beaten 7-11 at home by Hawks G; Catherine Hampson won all of 6 games to earn herself the LOTM award.

In 5, Brindle won 17-1 at home to a 4 sided Clayton crusaders E. Whittle D lost to their own C team in a 5-13 defeat. Natalie Kane & Denise Haydock won 5 games to be the best players on the night & assist the team in a 4 point max win to keep the team in 4th spot. A five sided Clayton D lost 5-13 to their own C team who now are guaranteed promotion into division 4 next season & are  now just a win away from lifting the shield. Meanwhile St. Andrews E won 12-6 at home to their nearest rivals, Preston College B to go 6 points ahead of their opponents with 4 matches each to play; although College have Crusaders C to play in their final line up! Jane Ryding was the LOTM on the evening for winning all of her 6 games at No 3 Ladies. Garstang B won 12-6 at home to Evergreens C; Paul Whitehouse & Kat Platt won all their 6 to be the best pair on the night.

It’s the 2nd round of the cups next week, so I’ll be back in 2 weeks’ time with the final fixtures of the season.
